Vacancy Position: Data Collectors / Woman Interviews

Essential Requirements:
  • Potential candidates must be women over the age of 21
  • Must be residents of Kisumu
  • Minimum O’ level  of C (plain) at KCSE or equivalent
  • Previous household survey experience
  • Experience conducting interviews
  • Proficiency in oral and written Dholuo, English and Swahili languages
  • Candidates must demonstrate:
1.     maturity,
2.     responsibility,
3.     a friendly and respectful attitude,
4.     appropriate appearance and demeanor,
5.     curiosity,
6.     flexibility,
7.     attention to detail, and
8.     an interest in survey research.
  • Candidates must be available to work full-time for the months of July 2015 and June 2016 and part time (1 to 2 hours/day) from August 2015 through May 2016 –interested candidates MUST BE AVAILABLE FOR THIS ENTIRE PERIOD OF TIME.
  • Additionally, candidates must be available to work evenings and weekends and must be able to be away from home for up to 14 hours in a day during periods of full-time employment.
  • Candidates must be able to walk long distances and carry questionnaires and other equipment.
  • Extensive knowledge of the city of Kisumu and surrounding area is required.
  • Candidates must be comfortable using a tablet to collect data.
  • Candidates must have access to a reliable source of electricity for charging an electronic data collection device daily.
  • Each candidate must certify in writing that she meets these requirements and must be able to explain why she wants this job and how this job will enable her to achieve her goals.
A total of 3 to 4 candidates will be invited to participate in the training but only 2 will be selected for actual data collection. 

The candidates who are trained but not selected may serve as alternate data collectors in the event one of the selected candidates is unable to fulfill her duties.

Job Description:
 The Interviewer will be responsible for conducting short interviews with women of reproductive age (15 to 49 years) in Kisumu over a 1 year period.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Attend a 2-3 day training
  • Participate in a 1-2 day pilot testing of the data collection instrument
  • Conduct interviews with women of reproductive age in central Kisumu
  • Attend all meetings on time and report on progress of work
  • Adhere strictly to the project deadlines for completion of duties assigned
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the principal investigator or research assistant
Terms of Employment: Contract for 1 to 2 months of full-time employment and 10 months of part-time employment.
