Short-term Assignment for a Data Analyst / Statistician

Research Support Services Ltd. (RSS Group) is an independent employee-owned research consulting and institutional strengthening firm established to conduct health, policy, social, agricultural, environmental and development research through innovation, partnership and capacity building, with the aim of promoting evidence based decision making processes.

RSS is currently looking for a data analyst / statistician for a short (5 day) consultancy assignment to support one of our ongoing survey programs being carried out in Northern Kenya (Wajir, Mandera, Turkana, and Marsabit). 

The successful candidate will be required to:
  • Review the already developed survey instruments and advise on their relevance and adequacy prior to data collection.
  • Develop a data analysis and tabulation plan for the quantitative and/or qualitative data based on the validated study tools in order to meet the study’s reporting requirements.
  • Undertake quantitative and/or qualitative data analysis based on the analysis and tabulation plans developed and produce a statistical abstract report as required.
  • Provide necessary support within the allocated timeframe to Helpage with regards to interpretation of the study findings.
We are seeking qualified and self-motivated individuals with the following key qualifications;
  • Master’s degree in Statistics, Applied Mathematics or any relevant Statistical discipline from a recognized institution. 
  • Undergraduates (Bachelor’s Degree) with a statistical background complemented with work experience related to data analysis for monitoring and evaluation purposes shall be considered.
  • A demonstrated experience working for research projects in monitoring and evaluation, including design of quantitative and qualitative data collection tools, design of data analysis & tabulation plans and quantitative and qualitative data cleaning and analysis and reporting.
  • Expert knowledge of quantitative and qualitative statistical software preferably SPSS and NVivo, but also R+, SAS, Stata, CSPRO and Atlas Ti.
  • Possession of good organizational, team player and interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate and interact effectively with clients and;
  • Ability to rapidly interpret and translate data into literature and simple reports.
The consultancy assignment shall be based in Nairobi, Kenya and will require working onsite for a period of 5 days.

Preference will be given to qualified candidates who are able to start immediately and/or on a short notice.
