General Description of Tasks and Objectives to be Achieved: Under the overall supervision of the Officer in Charge (O.I.C.) FAO Somalia, CTA and the Nutrition Technical, the Nutrition Intern will focus on the following areas and tasks:

Specific Duties and Responsibilities
·                     Under the supervision of the zonal Nutrition focal point, assist in the planning and preparation of nutrition surveys.
·                     In close collaboration with Nutrition focal point for respective zones and with support from the Nutrition Analyst in charge of the zone and Nutrition Data Analyst assist in ensuring the Health Information System data and feeding facility data at the MoH Nutrition section is received, updated and run basic analysis of this information.
·                     Assist in cleaning and entry of nutrition assessments data, under the supervision of the relevant Nutrition focal point/ Analysts.
·                     Attend Nutrition cluster meetings in the duty area and other relevant food security, nutrition and health related meetings.
·                     Under the supervision of the zonal Nutrition focal point, assist in the planning and preparation of nutrition surveys.
·                     In detail read the nutrition technical reports, updates and other relevant documents published and ensure consistency in reporting of rates, confidence intervals, tables and information in text.
·                     In close collaboration with Nutrition focal point assist in drafting, editing and finalizing articles for the nutrition updates/technical series.
·                     Perform other tasks as assigned
Minimum Requirements

Education:
·                     Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition, Public Health or equivalent from a recognized university/institution
Technical Competencies
·                     Strong writing ability and critical thinking.
·                     High degree of self-motivation and initiative.
·                     Willingness to learn and apply new analytical approaches
Languages: Working knowledge (level C) of the FAO official language used for communication within the country (English, French or Spanish) and working knowledge of the local language(s) is required.

IT Skills:
·                     Ability to effectively use standard office software, such as MS Office (Windows, Word, Outlook, Excel, Exchange) etc.

General Description of Tasks and Objectives to be Achieved:Under the overall supervision of the Officer in Charge (O.I.C.) FAO Somalia and of the Project Manager/ CTA and the direct supervision of the Food Security Technical Manager to provide programme support in the formulation, monitoring and reporting of the field programme at country office level. 

In particular to:
·                     Deliver on FSNAU’s Urban and Internally Displaced People (IDP) analysis, including improvements in urban and IDP survey methods and tools and analysis of shocks on the urban and IDP populations and thematic applied research.
·                     Contribute to institutional capacity development activities through a provision of trainings, supporting and giving guidance in analysis to members of government and civil society targeted for capacity development
·                     Analyse civil insecurity situation in Somalia based on secondary and primary data collected by FSNAU and contribute to improved methods and tools for analysing/ collecting civil insecurity information
·                     Update urban, IDP and civil insecurity sector analysis framework,  including methods, tools, sampling approach and analysis plan used
·                     Provide technical supervision of the FSNAU field analysts to deliver on planned urban and IDP assessments and analysis
·                     In close collaboration with the baseline team, ensure protracted IDP specific indicators and analyses are included as appropriate in the urban baseline analysis.
·                     Analyse and prepare written reports on the Somalia urban, IDP and civil insecurity analysis contributing to FSNAU food security publications as required.
·                     Plan and organise urban and IDP assessments, including seasonal assessments and any other required ad-hoc assessments, in close consultation with the Food Security Technical Manager, Deputy Food Security Technical Manager and Nutrition analysts
·                     As part of FSNAU’s core analytical activities conduct field work in urban and IDP analysis in all parts of Somalia.
·                     Participate in technical meetings, workshops and discussions, representing FSNAU as an Urban and IDP Analyst and deliver presentations as required to ensure effective contributions using FSNAU analysis and data.
·                     Any other duties as requested by the Food Security Technical Manager or CTA.
·                     Perform other related duties as required.
Minimum Requirements

Education:
·                     Master’s degree in Food security/ Nutrition, Demography, Statistics or Political Science.
Work Experience:
·                     Minimum relevant work experience of 7 years in food security and livelihood issues, preferably working in Somalia.
Technical Competencies
·                     Strong management and supervision skills as well as strong critical thinking and writing abilities.
·                     Willingness to learn and apply new analytical approaches
·                     Sensitivity to the social and cultural environment of Somali.
·                     Accessibility and ability to travel widely throughout Somalia
Languages:

General Description of Tasks and Objectives to be Achieved: Under the overall supervision of the FAO Somalia Officer in Charge (O.I.C.), the FSNAU Chief Technical Adviser (CTA), and under direct supervision of the Data Systems and Information Manager, the Database and Applications Developer will provide database application programming support as a member of the Data Systems and Information Management Team of the FAO managed Food Security and Nutrition Analysis Unit for Somalia (FSNAU). 

Specific Duties and Responsibilities
 
Database and Application programming
·                     Program application modules for the FSNAU internal/external usage. These include server and client side programming.
·                     Develop various databases using open source programming in a web-based environment, for integration in the FSNAU database system.
·                     Attend and conduct necessary meetings to plan and program any modules (database, intranet, web site etc.).
·                     Assist in the conceptual development of database driven applications
·                     Maintain the FSNAU applications currently in existence and modify/amend whenever necessary.
Training and Documentation
·                     Training users (admin and system) using the various database and system applications
·                     Documenting programming code and system technical descriptions.
·                     Perform other related duties as required.
All components will be programmed using Open Source software and database systems (MySQL, PHP, XML, JSP, Java, ODBC).

Minimum Requirements
Education:
·                     Bachelor’s degree in Information Communication Technology (ICT), Computer Science or Computer Engineering.
Work Experience
·                     Minimum of 3 years work experience in projects involving database programming and/or application development, database administration, etc.
·                     Previous work experience in projects involving database programming and/or application development, database administration, etc.
·                     Previous experience programming in Open Source languages and Open Source Operating Systems (MySQL, PHP, Java, HTML, XML, etc)
Technical Competencies

General Description of Tasks and Objectives to be Achieved: Under the overall supervision of the Officer in Charge (O.I.C.) FAO Somalia , CTA and the Nutrition Technical Manager and direct supervision of the Nutrition Analyst,  the Nutrition field  Analyst will focus on the following areas and tasks:
·                     Facilitate and Conduct Nutrition surveys as per SMART Methodology
·                     Conduct routine nutritional surveillance activities (HIS, sentinel sites surveillance or rapid assessments) in pre-determined regions,
·                     Responsible for data entry, analysis and consolidate the analysis for the specific region  and report to the Nutrition Analyst
·                     Represent FSNAU in meetings with partners at the field, informing the local administration, where appropriate, of FSNAU nutrition activities.
·                     Highlight areas of concern in their areas of responsibility alerting the Nairobi based supervisor when additional resources are required.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
·                     Provision a monthly reliable and appropriate up to date nutrition analysis of the predetermined region by the 25th of each month. This information should come from primary sources as well as triangulated with secondary sources: primary data (most recent nutrition assessments; sentinel site nutrition data; recent rapid assessments; selective feeding centre data); secondary sources of data (HIS data from health centre post, hospitals and other health related data from MoH and NGO where appropriate; Food Security and nutrition information from FSNAU and partners on the ground; NGO/ CBO reports)
·                     As per the work plan of nutrition assessments and in collaboration with other members of the Nutrition Team, partners and FSNAU enumerators, plan and undertake nutrition assessments.
·                     Conduct sentinel site surveillance activities in the pre-selected sites in line with high standards of data collection.
·                     Ensure the data is reliable and accurate and ensure quality control when entering data into EpiInfo and conduct preliminary analysis.
·                     Feedback the data as necessary to the community in the relevant sites
·                     Collect and enter monthly nutrition information from the HIS and send to Nairobi
·                     Provide quarterly feedback to all health facilities participating in the Nutrition Surveillance System on the data provided.
·                     Support health facilities in the analysis, interpretation and use of nutrition information.
·                     Ensure timely and appropriate dissemination of information and support understanding, analysis and use of the information among key partner.
·                     Support the establishment and maintenance of systems for transmission of data within the area of responsibility and to Nairobi.
·                     As per the work plan and in collaboration with members of the Nutrition Working Group identify and provide training and supportive supervision to health workers and project managers in partner organisations in nutrition assessment methodology and analysis as requested.
·                     In collaboration with the Nutrition Field Analysts assess training needs and undertake nutrition related training of FSNAU Enumerators, Food Security Field Analysts and partners.
·                     Undertake training of survey teams where necessary; participate in data collection and analysis and support interpretation and presentation of survey results.
·                     Disseminate the Nutrition Update and other relevant publications to relevant partners in areas of operation requesting feedback on the content and use. Ensure that this feedback is sent to the Nairobi based supervisor
·                     Liaise with and update relevant partners and actors on FSNAU plans for activities in the region for the coming month.
·                     Provide input to the ‘Nutrition Update’ and contribute to the food security input of the ‘Food Security Monthly Report’ as defined by supervisor.
·                     Ensure weekly contact with the NBI based supervisor to keep them update of changes in the activities work plan where appropriate or changes in the nutrition situation
·                     Attend regional technical meetings in consultation with regional and Nairobi based supervisor.
·                     Represent the Nutrition Surveillance Project at other humanitarian focus meetings.
·                     Liaise with the FSNAU Food Security Focal Point in the area in situation analysis, preparation of reports and planning of significant activities.
·                     Ensure the local administration is involved and aware of FSNAU nutrition project activities.
·                     Undertake any other duties related to the objectives of the project as described on the first page.
·                     In the event of exceptional circumstances such as recent displacement or flooding requiring a rapid assessment the Nutrition Analyst will prepare an additional report outlining the key findings and analysis as necessary.
·                     Participation in nutrition assessments in respective area of coverage in addition to occasional support to other regions where necessary
Minimum Requirements

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition, Public Health or equivalent from a recognized university / institution

Work Experience: Minimum of 3 years relevant work experience in Nutrition analysis preferably in Somalia

Technical Competencies
·                     Excellent data analysis skills and proficiency in analytical software including SPSS, Epinfo, ENA
·                     Excellent planning, organizing and delivery of  quality results
·                     Excellent communication skills
