It provides increased access to food, access to sustainable energy sources, more income. Sustainable agriculture contributes to the mitigation of climate change and protects against the negative effects of climate change

Job Description:
 The purpose of the position is to strengthen gender mainstreaming in Vi Agroforestry program office country offices and among partners. 

The overall purpose is to provide technical support to partner organizations and Vi Agroforestry’s country offices regarding gender equality and also to ensure effective gender mainstreaming within Vi Agroforestry funded programmes.  

The Gender Equality Programme Coordinator will work under the supervision of the Regional Director and in close collaboration with country managers and with technical support units in the country offices.

Key Areas
  • Promotion of knowledge,  information sharing and learning on gender issues
  • Support capacity building on gender to the country Coordinators
  • Management of reporting processes for monitoring and evaluation on gender component
  • Production of training materials.
  • Lead and guide regular monitoring activities in gender
  • Develop Vi Agroforestry’s gender strategy further and implement it
Key Responsibilities
  • The overall purpose of this position is to provide technical support to partner organization’s and to Vi Agroforestry’s country offices in regards to gender equality, and also to ensure effective gender mainstreaming within Vi Agroforestry funded programs.
  • Take lead in integrating and mainstreaming gender equality in projects and programs, in all Vi Agroforestry country offices.
  • Develop the scope of gender equality, to continuously meet the needs of the country offices.
  • Supervise and mentor staff within gender equality in Vi Agroforestry country offices and its partners.
  • Monitor Vi Agroforestry supported projects and ensure timely realization of outputs through continuous dialogue with the Country offices gender responsible Coordinator
  • Maintain a close dialogue with the partner organizations regarding semi-annual and annual reporting. 
  • Receive, analyze and submit reports to the regional team for discussion and approval.
  • Identify the need for and provide technical support to the country offices. 
  • Ensure that mainstreaming of gender equality is being carried out in accordance with the project objectives.
  • Identify and facilitate interventions that further improve mainstreaming efforts to all sectors of intervention for Vi Agroforestry.
  • Keep abreast with national development in the countries and region within gender equality.
  • Participate in fundraising efforts including and develop proposals.
  • Prepare on timely basis the annual regional office report.
  • Facilitate capacity building for Vi Agroforestry staff and partner organization’s in the areas of gender equality
  • Overall responsibility for developing organizational strategies, policies and providing direction in the area of gender.
  • Ensure effective monitoring and evaluation, documentation and dissemination of good practices in the area of gender equality.
  • Ensure compliance and implementation of gender equality at workplace programme for staff.
  • Facilitate effective networks and partnerships and ensure participation of Vi Agroforestry in relevant gender national and international forums.
  • Help initiate the FRAS support and implement it with partner organization.
Education Requirements:
  • BSc or MSc in Gender studies or equivalent
Specialized Training / Professional Qualifications
  • HIV and Aids
Work Experience
  • 5 years’ and above experience in in gender equality and development work.
Skills Required:
  • Sufficient knowledge and experience of development work.
  • Working knowledge of computer application packages and Internet.
  • Good interpersonal skills to be able to relate to people of diverse backgrounds.
  • Planning and organizing ability to be able to accomplish tasks on schedule, file and retrieve information.
  • Effective communication both oral and written English.
  • Effective leadership and managerial skills.
  • A pedagogic trainer with the ability to capacity build
  • Good analytical skills.

Farm Enterprise Development Coordinator

Job Description: The position as Farmer Enterprise Development (FED) Coordinator has the overall responsibilities to: continuously co-ordinate and manage as well as provides leadership and guidance to the staff and selected partners/service providers implementing the Farmer Enterprise Development Component in the project operational areas. 

The position will identify networks and collaborate with both public, civil society and private relevant partners. 

The Farm Enterprise Development Coordinator will work under the supervision of the Regional Director and in close collaboration with country managers and with technical support units in the country offices.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordination of all the farmer enterprise activities in the country offices.
  • Coordinate preparation of quarterly and annual plans, budgets and reports for the component.
  • Collaborate with other country offices in order to get synergetic effects of the work.
  • Access technical advice and supervision from Country Managers during planning and implementation of the component activities.
  • Coordinate implementation of rural financial services components.
  • Facilitate and coordinate implementation of farmer enterprise development and market Linkages.
  • Provision of leadership at all levels to harness the available resources towards the set targets and in consistence with Vi Agroforestry vision, mission and goals.
  • Ensure that the farmer enterprise development activities are commensurate with performance targets
  • Coach and mentor all staff implementing the component in order to achieve the set targets.
  • Monitor and follow up on all aspects of underperformance and build remedial mechanisms that are routinely followed up.
  • Facilitate market linkages.
  • You will compile quality narrative and statistical reports and deliver to the Monitoring Coordinator.
  • You will routinely advice the Regional director on action plans and on challenges within the farmer enterprise development component.
  • Ensure that marginalized groups are given the same opportunities and are encouraged to participate in activities on equal terms as non-marginalized people
  • Ensure adherence to the Vi Agroforestry operating procedures.
  • You will carry out any other duties assigned by the Regional Director.
Education Requirements: BSc or MSc in Agriculture, Agriculture Economics, Natural Resource Management, Business administration, Finance or a Social Science or equivalent.
