ACTED Kenya is looking for an
experienced a driven professional to fill the post of Appraisal Monitoring and
Evaluation Assistant.
Key Functions: The
AME Assistant’s main role is to support the Data Analyst/AME Officer in the
implementation of all AME activities.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist the AMEU officer to prepare and
implement monitoring and evaluation plans to measure project progress and
impact indicators;
- Assist in planning data collections Including
development of data collection tools to determine appropriateness during
data analysis;
- Dealing with problems arising in the course of
data handling;
- Assist the line manager in creating
operational data management and data analysis systems using SPSS, MS Excel
and STATA to enable effective monitoring and evaluation;
- Providing analysis of qualitative and
quantitative data, writing and compiling reports to inform programme
development and implementation;
- Generating trends of key indicators of
projects per sector i.e. WASH, Food Security, Livelihood and Early
Warning.
- Assist to Improve AMEU processes and
procedures including data collection skills, data quality, analysis and
report writing;
- To perform any other duties as required by the
line manager and AME manager.
Qualifications/Skills/Profile
Required
- Somali speaker and good understanding of the
Somalia context candidates are encouraged to apply.
- Degree in social sciences/Statistics or
related field; at least one year experience in working with a
humanitarian/development organization.
- Experience in conducting M&E activities
(including data collection, research, results-based monitoring, etc.).
- Excellent analytical skills in order to
interpret qualitative and quantitative data, including use of SPSS, STATA
and Excel for data analysis;
- Good communication skills and fluency in both
written and spoken English;
- Highly motivated and ability to work with
culturally diverse groups of people;
- Excellent interpersonal skills and
demonstrated ability to establish effective and working relationships;
- Strong team player of high integrity;
- Ability to work under least supervision, deal
constructively with stress and meet tight deadlines;
- Ability to organize and train field teams;

Position: Database Intern

ACTED Kenya is looking for an
experienced a driven professional to fill the post of Database Intern.
Key Functions: The database officer will be responsible for
assisting with managing all database related functions for all programs
undertaken by ACTED/REACH Kenya and Somalia.
The Database Intern reports to the
Capital GIS/Database Officer.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensure Data remains consistent across the
database;
- Ensure Data is clearly defined and accessible;
- Ensure Database serves the users in a form
that suits their needs;
- Ensure there is provision for data security
and recovery control (all data is retrievable in an emergency).
- Develop and manage ACTED central database
effectively;
- Maintain and manage the online databases for
ACTED Kenya/Somalia;
- Ensure data collected is well-organized and
easily readable
- Ensure information regarding programs is
consolidated into one database and is up-to-date;
- Contribute to development of standardized data
collection templates;
- Identify missing data and follow up with
program staff in order to fill the gaps;
- Provide reports, charts, tables based on
database data as requested; ,
- Maintain data standards, including adherence
to the Data Protection Act;
- Develop database documentation, including data
standards, procedures and definitions for the data dictionary (metadata);
- Communicate regularly with GIS/Database
Officer and relevant operational staff to ensure the effective use of
databases, integrity and security;
- Other duties as requested by GIS/Database
Officer.
Qualifications/Skills/Profile
Required
- Somali speaker and good understanding of the
Somalia context candidates are encouraged to apply.
- Bachelor’s degree in IT, MIS, Computer Science
or any other related field;
- Experience working with organizations in humanitarian/developing
contexts will be an added advantage;
- Strong knowledge of MS Excel and Access is a
must;
- Knowledge of data visualization and data
analysis software such as SPSS, Stata is desirable;
- Knowledge of M&E processes and basic data
analysis is a plus;
- Ability and willingness to learn new
techniques;
- Ability to operate in a cross-cultural
environment requiring flexibility;
- Ability to work independently;
- A team player;
- Ability to travel if required;
- Fluency in English, including ability to write
reports in English.

experienced self driven and self oriented professional to fill the following
post;
Head of Finance
Under the authority of the Country
Finance Manager, her/his specific duties will include:
- Provides leadership in the development and
implementation of the finance department’s strategy, operational plans and
policies.
- Overall responsible for accountancy, financial
reporting, internal procedures compliance.
- Provide technical assistance to the Country
Finance Manager (CFM) and the rest of the finance team.
Specific Responsibilities
Accountancy and procedures:
- Accountable for ACTED Kenya/Somalia’s
accountancy and to ensure that the procedures are followed and
requirements met at all levels.
- Ensure an efficient flow of information,
accountancy, financial follow up tools and hard copy files between field
offices, capital office and HQ
- Develop and implement stringent expenditure
control procedures to ensure all payments are supported by all the
necessary and valid accounting documents and checked against
SAGA(Accountancy) entries.
- Oversee recording and validation of financial
data by the finance officer
- Manage and oversee preparation of financial
statements, tax forecasts, cashflow reports, statutory accounts and other
management reports and accountings records.
- Approve all the documentation for finance in
absence of the CFM.
Monthly follow-up:
- Establish budgeting procedures including
setting up of job/project budget commitments, capturing and tracking of
project costs and advising on the need to revise budgets.
- Oversee the TITANIC package process and ensure
the timely completion of this monthly requirement.
- Assist the Finance Controller in BFU
- Financial analysis together with the Finance
Controller and CFM.
Project development:
- Together with the PDD and program department
to draft budget proposal to be review by the CFM.
- To ensure rules and requirement are fully met
in budget proposals.
- To update a “donor guidelines” document on a
regular basis. Organize trainings of donor guidelines.
- Ensure financial requirements (budgets,
eligibility of costs, flexibility, reporting, etc.) of donors are met.
- To prepare financial sheets and coordinate
with logistics team on the procurement plans.
Reporting and Donor Compliance:
- To prepare interim and final report to donors,
- Develop internal reports for coordination
decision making.
- To review financial reports from implementing
partner together with supporting documentation.
- To ensure an on-time and efficient flow of
information.
Management and capacity building:
- Lead, manage, appraise and motivate capital
and field level finance team members.
- Train finance teams, both at capital and field
levels.
- Financial focal point for implementing
partners – assisting them improving their capacity, financial follow-up
and reporting requirements.
- Refresher workshops
Others:
- Facilitate the work of external auditors and
provide all assistance required
- To Assist the Compliance department in audits
- To ensure filling and organization of the
department is optimal and efficient
Requested Profile
- A Masters holder in Business Administration
(Finance option)
- A CPA holder
- Demonstrated experience of overall responsibility
and accountability for the financial management of an organization
preferably an INGO.
- Well conversant with computer applications-MS
Office is mandatory
- Knowledge of accounting principles and hands
on experience of using computerized financial accounting systems Good
presentation and analytical skills
- Excellent communication skills and
problem-solving skills
- Strong team player of high integrity, pleasant
personality, ability to work under least supervision
- Good time management skills and the ability to
prioritise
- High numeracy and sound technical skills
- Knowledge of Somalia language will be a plus
- The ability to balance the demands of work
with other commitments;
- The ability to work as part of a team and to
build strong working relationships;
- The potential to lead and motivate others;
