Vacancy: Assistant Communications and Media Officer
The Tax Justice Network-Africa
(TJN-A) is a Pan-African initiative and a member of the Global Alliance for Tax
Justice. Launched in January 2007, at the World Social Forum (WSF) in Nairobi,
Kenya, TJN-A promotes socially just, accountable and progressive taxation
systems in Africa.
It aims to achieve this by
challenging harmful tax policies and practices that on one hand facilitate
illicit resource outflows and on the other hand favour the wealthy while
aggravating and perpetuating inequality. TJN-A strives to promote the role of
tax justice in the African development agenda.
It further endeavours to provide a
platform dedicated to enabling African researchers, campaigners, civil society
organisations, policy makers, and investigative media to co-operate and
synergise their efforts in the struggle against illicit financial flows, tax
evasion, tax competition and other harmful tax policies and practices.
The Role: TJN-A
seeks an Assistant Communications and Media officer to contribute towards
ensuring that TJN-A’s communications are effective, targeted and
credible.
The position will develop and
implement strategies and create content to raise TJN-A’s media profile as well
as the profile of tax justice issues.
The Assistant Communications and Media Officer reports to TJN-A Policy and Advocacy Manager and will liaise regularly with other members of the TJN-A Secretariat team.
Responsibilities:
- Develop, manage and maintain TJN-A’s media
relations
- Assist to develop and implement communications
strategy for TJN-A
- Assist to develop communication strategies for
events and policy submissions
- Support TJN-A Secretariat and members’
communication needs
- Develop advocacy and communication products
- Manage and promote TJN-A’s online presence
- Contribute to the preparation of programme
reports, grant proposals, work plans, and budgets
- Other related duties as assigned by TJN-A
Job Requirements and Qualifications:
- Educated to at least degree level in a
communications or relevant subject.
- 1-3 years’ experience in media and
communications is essential
- Experience in a campaigning environment will
be desirable
- Ability to communicate and work in both
English and French is a must.
- Strong organisational skills, attention to
detail, and the ability to multi-task.
- Demonstrate a successful track record with
working in a multi-cultural setting.
Salary: Commensurate
with experience, includes medical cover and relocation package if from outside
Kenya.
