About our organization: ICRISAT is a non-profit, apolitical, international
organization for science-based agricultural research for development.

15 Centres of the Consultative Group for International Agricultural Research

In the Eastern and Southern Africa
(ESA), ICRISAT has country programs in Zimbabwe, Malawi, Mozambique and
Ethiopia.
ICRISAT Regional Office for ESA is
located in Nairobi, Kenya and is currently seeking a qualified candidate to
fill the locally recruited position of a Research Associate.
About the position: To provide scientific support to the Dryland Cereals Breeding Scientists.
Assist Scientists in:
- Planning of cereals breeding research projects
- Execution of regional/global cereals breeding
research projects
- Planning and execution of on-farm activities
- Evaluation of regional/global cereals breeding
research projects
- Data collection and analysis
- Capacity building for National Research
partners, under-graduate and graduate students in breeding techniques and
field trials management, data collection and analysis
- Germplasm collection, characterization,
rejuvenation and maintenance
- Seed imports and exports
- Writing research reports, publications and
other communications.
- Offering scientific assistance to the Research
Programs Scientists including proposal development, planning and
budgeting.
- Any other related duties as assigned by the
supervisor.
Requirements
- MSc in Agriculture (Plant breeding, Crop
Science
- At least 2 years of experience in a research
institution and good understanding of plant breeding and dimensions in
agriculture.
- Candidates with less experience but proven ability
to deliver may be considered
- Preferably having experience of working in
multi-cultural and interdisciplinary teams.
- Experience in an international organization
environment will be an added advantage
- Practical experience in field experimental
work
- Strong statistical skills and use of Genstat,
SAS or related statistical package
- Ability to prioritize and organize work
efficiently and independently
- Ability to meet deadlines and work under
pressure with minimal supervision
- Good interpersonal skills, integrity, honesty
and self-motivation
