Lands Clerk and Legal Intern Jobs in Kenya

Our client a leading multinational urgently seeking to recruit legal personnel for the following positions.


Lands Clerk
 

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Keeping an updated register of all properties owned & leased by VEK
  • Obtaining Annual Land Rates demands for all properties owned and leased  by VEK from various registries around the country
  • Obtaining annual Search Certificates  for each property leased and owned by VEK
  • Payment of all annual land rates for all properties
  • Obtaining Annual Clearance Certificates for each property
  • Proper and updated storage and filing of receipts and clearance certificates for each property.
  • Obtaining demands from all Local Authorities
  • Paying the rates
  • Obtaining Annual Clearance Certificates for all properties
  • Keeping and updated record of all Titles and their Expiry Dates
  • Reporting to HOL on any Title OR AND  Lease with 5 years to expiry and below
  • In collaboration with Legal Administrator, confirming that we have title to each property
  • Investigating ,Confirming and reporting on  status of each title at the Lands Registry annually
  • In collaboration with Network Manager, monitoring all leases- term & expiry
  • Annual Leases status verification.
  • Reading Kenya Gazette and Newspapers and reporting to the HOL on any matter touching on any Lease or Title
  • Reading all Notices by National Lands Commission, Government Compulsory Acquisitions
  • Follow up in collaboration with external counsel on all approvals at lands/city/ county/local authorities for subdivisions, amalgamation, change of use etc
  • Stamping and registration of all land related documents such as Agreements, Licenses generated from within
  • Generating a Monthly Report on all the above activities to the HOL for distribution to MD.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Diploma in Law
  • At least 5 years that deals in convincing and land matters for
  • MS Office suite Competent
  • Driving License
Legal Intern

Duties & Responsibilities
  •  Ensuring that the company’s interests are protected in contracting by reviewing contracts.
  • Ensuring that the contracts/agreements are acceptable and not entirely one sided by negotiating clauses.
  • Checking and ensuring that important clauses in all contracts have been included
  • Preparing addendums amending, correcting or extending validity of contracts.
  • Attendance of contract negotiation meetings.
  • Ensuring that they are within negotiated terms, the law, that due diligence has been conducted etc.
  • Assistance in arranging   board meetings and annual general meetings.
  • Assistance in preparation of agenda and time table for board and annual general meetings.
  • Assistance in the Preparation of board papers.
  • Supervising the Filing of accounts and annual returns at the registry.
  • Supervision of other filings in the Company Registry
  • Actual generation and drafting of clauses in agreements in line with the needs and requirements of the company.
  • Commenting on contracts in tender documents and suggesting changes.
  • Keeping a diary of all cases that are in court and when they are coming up for hearing.
  • Collection of supportive evidence for litigation and dispatch to lawyers.
  • Ensuring that all documentary and other evidence is well preserved and stored, all files are in place and well updated and coordinating the entire litigation process.
  • Preparation of witnesses for hearing- pre trial briefing with the lawyers.
  • Accompanying of witnesses to court.
  • Arranging and attending strategy meetings with the lawyers on how to proceed.
  • Follow up with lawyers on the progress of court matters and pushing them to take certain actions.
  • Ensuring that the interests of the company are in place  and current through leases, licences etc
  • Monitoring payment of rates through the external lawyers, notifying the relevant offices within the company for payment.
  • Ensuring that the company’s interests are properly secured for example by registering mortgages and charges over properties where advance payments are paid such as advance rents for leased properties.
  • In disposal of properties, advise to the company on the process, legal requirements and documentation.
  • Legal research, analysis and preparation of legal opinions on matters arising.
  • Assessment of Bank Guarantees for compliance.
  • Arranging and calling the administration committee meetings
  • Taking minutes  in administration committee meeting and distributing the same
  • Liaising with the administrators in the arrangement of the AGM
Minimum Qualifications
  • Law Degree- From a reputable university
  • Completed pupilage at a Law Firm
  • Recently admitted to the Bar as an Advocate of The High Court of Kenya
  • Diploma Kenya School of Law
