Role Profile:Business Leader,Product Development


The Position: Reporting to the MasterCard Labs for Financial Inclusion, the Business Leader, Product Development role will play a pivotal role in launching and establishing MasterCard Labs for Financial Inclusion, as well as launching new products developed by MasterCard Labs. 

The role is looking for an experienced Product manager who is passionate about building products to meet the needs of specific user segments. 

The position will be responsible for defining the product vision (including the product roadmap) and owning aspects of the product lifecycle, working with and motivating cross-functional teams in a lean start-up environment.

Key Responsibilities
·                     Define and own the Lab’s product strategy, roadmap and priorities.
·                     Ensure end-to-end development and management of the Lab products, including high-impact and differentiated product positioning, sales support, messaging, launch strategy and market segmentation to drive optimum growth and target segment adoption.
·                     Manage financial and operational performance of the product against targets.
·                     Continuously identify and strategize opportunities for product extensions and enhancements to support market segments and needs.
·                     Work closely with and motivate technology team to deliver Product roadmap; partner with strategic partnerships and marketing leads on market needs, feature prioritization, and identification of product enhancements.
·                     Drive detailed Go To Market product activities, including but not limited to, contract development with legal and Global Supply Management teams, data privacy/usage requirements, marketing collateral coordination with marketing lead, branding approvals, acquirer/partner relationship management in conjunction with channel managers, research/planning for target markets and product scope, and ongoing platform operational efforts.
Position Requirements/Qualifications
·                     Bachelor's degree
·                     Extensive background in product lifecycle delivery; demonstrated experience in developing  innovative segment and product solutions.
·                     Demonstrated success defining and launching excellent products.
·                     Proven project delivery experience, organizational skills and attention to detail.

Role Profile:Business Leader,Software Engineering

The Position: Reporting to the MasterCard Labs for Financial Inclusion, the Business Leader, Software Engineering will manage a team of 7 engineers driving hard to bring innovative financial inclusion focused payment solutions to the unbanked and underserved in East Africa.

He/she will partner with the Product development lead to define the product vision (including the product roadmap) and own the product development lifecycle, working with and motivating cross-functional teams in a lean start-up environment.

Key Responsibilities
·                     Provide day-to-day leadership of the technology team: hiring, setting and tracking objectives, obtaining resources, overseeing task completion; and reporting progress, accomplishments and hurdles to the Head of the Lab.
·                     Define and own the Lab’s technology strategy, roadmap and priorities.
·                     Support the team in the development of high quality, secure, scalable software solutions based on technical requirement specifications and design artifacts within expected time and budget.
·                     Ensure your team meets all requirements for programming, testing, implementation, documentation, maintenance and support of systems application software in adherence with MasterCard standards, processes and best practices.
·                     Partner with the product development, strategic partnerships and marketing leads on market needs, feature prioritization, and identification of product enhancements.
·                     Work with the rest of the team to meet scheduled due dates, while identifying emerging issues and recommending solutions for problems and independently perform assigned tasks.

Role Profile:Marketing Lead

The Position: Reporting to the MasterCard Labs for Financial Inclusion, the Marketing Lead candidate will play a pivotal role in launching and establishing MasterCard Labs for Financial Inclusion, as well as launching new products developed by the Lab.

He/she will be responsible for defining marketing communications and PR strategy for all new products developed by the Lab, and executing on that strategy with agility and flexibility in a lean start-up environment. 

The candidate will continuously identify opportunities and conceive innovative marketing solutions to best support different market segments and coordinate with the product and technical teams to execute them and demonstrate creative energy and passion for shaping successful marketing campaigns.

Key Responsibilities
·                     Develop product marketing and communication strategy (including online marketing and social media strategy) for all new products developed by the Lab and for all target segments.
·                     Coordinate all market research and market testing.
·                     Craft compelling product messaging and positioning, segmented according to audience.
·                     Create promotional content to fuel awareness of the products and develop creative collateral, such as videos, tutorials and other media suitable for the East African market to drive interest in the products.
·                     Engage with the business development teams to create and own all elements of cohesive campaigns, dynamic initiatives and compelling content to bring the solution to life.
·                     Evaluate and recommend conferences, events, tradeshows, meet-ups, etc., to leverage as outreach vehicles.
·                     Drive the standardized metrics and measurement tools for the evaluation of marketing initiatives.

The Position: Reporting to the MasterCard Labs for Financial Inclusion, the Business Leader, Innovation Management role will play a pivotal role in launching and establishing MasterCard Labs for Financial Inclusion, as well as ideating and prototyping new financial inclusion focused products suitable for development at the Lab.

The position will enable and catalyse innovation through the establishment, management and evolution of a comprehensive innovation program. You will leverage best practices and learnings, incorporate new ideas and assimilate with proven MasterCard Labs innovation processes.

Key Responsibilities



·                     Provide day-to-day leadership of the Innovation Management team (initially managing one other innovation management professional): hiring, setting and tracking objectives, obtaining resources, overseeing task completion; and reporting progress, accomplishments and hurdles to the Head of the Lab.
·                     Promote culture of innovation.
·                     Orchestrate internal and external idea generation processes to generate new ides to feed into the innovation process.
·                     Manage design, development and implementation of financial inclusion focused innovation programs; identify opportunities, anticipate barriers and develop roadmap/bridge to cultivate desired innovation mind-set.
·                     Ensure innovation programs are managed effectively in terms of cost and timing.
·                     Continuously improve and scale the innovation program by sharing best practices and lessons learned.
·                     Evaluate all ideas’ against established criteria to determine their fitness for Labs, and then orchestrate the effort to incubate the most promising ideas taking them from concept, through rapid prototyping and market testing, to commercialization.

The Position: Reporting to the MasterCard Labs for Financial Inclusion, the Business Leader, Strategic Partnerships and Business Development role will play a pivotal role in launching and establishing MasterCard Labs for Financial Inclusion, identifying and building strong partnerships, providing education to drive the adoption of the Lab’s products, leading client engagements and bringing in new business.

To be successful in this role, the candidate must be a passionate and energetic individual and possess strong people and communication skills. 

He/she will be required to represent MasterCard Labs for Financial Inclusion and influence stakeholders such as: local government and authorities, media, financial institutions, local universities, local startup community and NGOs.

Key Responsibilities
·                     Lead the Strategic Partnerships and Business Development team (initially managing one other professional): hiring, setting and tracking objectives, obtaining resources, overseeing task completion; and reporting progress, accomplishments and hurdles to the Head of the Lab.
·                     Identify and build strong partnerships with groups such as local government & authorities, financial institutions, local start-up community, senior MasterCard executives and local universities.
·                     Responsible for creating and executing on an innovative strategy to drive product adoption by leveraging a combination of partnerships and direct sales.
·                     Responsibility for establishing a start-up mentoring program in the East African region and recruiting MasterCard employees to participate as mentors.
·                     Develop an education program focused on financial inclusion.
·                     Assist with the education program, taking responsibility for all education materials.
·                     Creatively engage in community events, conferences, trade shows and social media to embrace incubators, meet ups, trade shows, and other outreach venues.
·                     Gather market feedback to inform product decisions.
Position Requirements / Qualifications

·                     Expert in business development/sales/partnerships in the areas of e-commerce and payments, preferably with experience in a start-up.

·                     20%+ travel may be required.
