Duties
He / she will, with the program team, ensure the following responsibilities.

1. Perform daily medical activities
in the clinic in Drop In Center
- Welcome the patients, prepare the medical
records and sort patients depending on degree of gravity and refer to the
clinic urgently if needed.
- Perform nursing care in assigned position:
- take vital signs of the patients before
consultation
- Carry out wound care / dressing
- Assist clinician in collecting blood samples
and other samples for HIV, STI and OIs when necessary
- Provide Hepatitis B vaccination
- Provide medication to patients based on
medical prescription and fill the pharmacy data accordingly
- Control the medical equipment and maintain
clinic hygiene and equipment standards to a high level in accordance with
best practice, ensure sterilization of medical instruments.
- Handle patients’ charts, store and file the
records.
- Provide and perform :
- Pre- and post-test HIV counselling as well as
tests.
- Pre and post-test Hepatitis counselling as
well as tests
- Perform ART/TB counselling and adherence
follow up
- Participate in mobile clinic and other
campaigns
2. Perform specialized counselling
activities for patients
- Organize proactively individual counselling
sessions (VCT, ART, Methadone) for patients on request or as referred by
outreach workers
- Set up a strict follow-up of those patients
- Pro-actively involve family members, relatives
and friends of the patients if required, taking prior patient’s agreement.
- Regularly consult outreach team to discuss on
individual cases as the need arise
- Participate in decision making process to
refer (with clinical officer) patients to specialist services if required
- Respect at all times patient requests and
confidentiality.
- Organize proactively collective support groups
(PLH, ART, Partner, Methadone etc.) on a regular basis in collaboration
with other staffs
3. Participate in Training and
sensitization activities
- Participate in monthly peer trainings and
sensitization of local stakeholders on request
4. Data collection and information
management
- Collect information on counselling, blood
tests according to MdM data collection tools
- Support the data clerk in getting proper
information by maintaining the (systematic) patients’ chart flow among the
consultation room, counselling room and mobile clinic
- Maintain confidentially of patients files and
keep the clinic data well organized
- Ensure systematic filing of lab results
- Update the death register of patients.
- Provide input to his/her line-manager in
preparation of monthly report.
5. Perform other duties upon request
- Participate in weekly meetings and other
program related meetings.
- Perform cash management for costs related to
referral
- Promote skills and knowledge transfer to other
MDM staff, eventually replicating the contents of attended trainings.
- Behave professionally; showing at all times
respect and empathy for patients / target group.
- Show initiative, participate in
developing/adapting MDM strategy to target group’s needs

- Support Coordinators in the development of the
capacity building component of the program: developing training plans,
training methods, training topics/modules, etc.
- In collaboration with Coordinators, develop
training/sensitization modules for participants in English and Swahili
- In collaboration with Program Coordinator and
other colleagues, assess training needs of participants and stakeholders
- Deliver training sessions to MdM staff, PWUD
(including peer educators), volunteers, interns and other stakeholders
(such as medical staff, police, NGO staff, religious & administrative
leaders, etc.)
- In collaboration with Coordinators and Data
Clerk, develop pre and post-training questionnaires and evaluation forms
for training sessions and analyse results of those tools
- Write reports on each training session
- Stay informed on protocols, guidelines and all
relevant information related to the program
- Contribute to the development of IEC materials
for PWUD
- Coordinate all aspects of the coordination of
yearly training calendar
- Support coordinators in promoting MdM training
offer, preparing brochures, mapping training offers of other institutions
in the same field and streamlining the training curriculum, exchange
experience with trainers from other institutions, etc.
- Support Coordinators in external
communications related to the program and the production of a diverse
range of information products (brochures, leaflets, videos…)
- Support Coordinators in developing a training
guide, contributing to MdM transversal training program, developing
information resources (library) for stakeholders.
- Responsible for the logistics of training sessions
(invitations, training materials, refreshments, etc.)
- Any other tasks as requested by Program

Officer will be responsible for training and capacity building around the
issues of Harm Reduction.
The position will require excellent
facilitation skills, organizational skills, and the confidence to work with a
variety of people from different partner organizations

computers, networks and software, including Windows XP Professional
programs such as Microsoft Word and Excel, Power Point, Publisher, Outlook

communications skills in English
Desirable:
- Prior knowledge of harm reduction programmes
- Experience with event coordination
- Familiarity with marginalized populations and
established commitment to cultural diversity and cultural competence is
essential.
