Nyanza Reproductive Health Society (NRHS) is a non-profit organization with headquarters in Kisumu. It is dedicated to improving the reproductive health of men and women. 

NRHS has several projects researching on HIV prevention; it runs support groups for PLWHA and MARPS, and is working with the Ministry of Health to scale up male circumcision for HIV prevention in various parts of Nyanza region.                   
 
NRHS seeks a qualified person to work in a sub-project of the JSI Research & Training Institute under the Advancing Partners and Communities project, funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), to advance and implement community-based family planning (CBFP) through the use of an integrated Population-Health-Environment (PHE) approach. 

The goal of the sub-project is to provide technical assistance to selected local NGOs working in the Lake Victoria Basin (Homa Bay, Kisumu and Siaya Counties) to integrate CBFP into their on-going population, health, environmental conservation, livelihoods, and poverty alleviation programs.
 
Job Title: Project Coordinator
 
Project Location: Homa Bay, Kisumu & Siaya Counties

Purpose of the Position: The purpose of this position is to coordinate and prepare reports of the PHE field operations. 
 
Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinating logistics and operations of project’s field programs and services.
  • Ensuring that CBFP activities and services are truly integrated through PHE approach and that field activities are implemented in a timely manner.
  • Scanning overall CBFP and PHE programs in the geographic areas of the project and strengthen collaboration with other PHE program players.
  • Ensuring that training activities of the project and those of the Mobile Training Teams of the local partner NGOs are executed as set out in the work plans.
  • Linking local NGO partners with suppliers of contraceptives and PHE supplies to ensure adequacy of FP and PHE supplies at community depots.
  • Representing NRHS and participating in field level CBFP and PHE forums.
  • Identifying and documenting the project’s best practices.
  • Preparing reports of the project’s field operations and documenting lessons learned.
Required Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelors’ degree or Advanced Diploma in Public Health, Sociology, Education, Social Work, Community Development, Environmental Studies, Population Studies, Demography, Monitoring & Evaluation, or Program Planning & Management.
  • Training and experience in implementation, coordination or supervision of CBFP, PHE, reproductive health, environmental conservation and related programs will be of added advantage.
  • Familiarity with strategies for demand creation for CBFP & PHE services.
  • Experience working in integrated programs at community level.
  • Excellent writing, presentation and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Computer literacy and capability in data management and analysis.
  • Not less than three years relevant job experience.

Mobilizer

Duties Will Include:
  • Ensure that set targets for his/her team in the area of operation are shared out to the teams and ensure the same is met.
  • Coordinate all social mobilization activities in the division which include organizing for all the divisional social mobilization activities in coordination with the District Social Mobilization Coordinator and the clinical teams.
  • Enhance teamwork amongst the Divisional Peer Educators under his/her jurisdiction.
  • Carry out mapping of the Division of operation together with the District Mobilization division, number of males in the target group, number of circumcised males, identification of all upcoming activities as per the community calendar the project may need to take part in within the division.
  • Community liaison officer in the District/Division of operation. Divisional Mobilizer will be expected to be key contact people for NRHS in their areas of operation. They will strive to build goodwill between NRHS and the community. As such, they must have contacts of the county administration and in their districts/division and continuously cultivate good relations with them.
  • Participate in the process of identifying the Peer Educators to review strategies and share on best practices.
  • Ensure tracking and reporting of all mobilization activities in the Division, including number of materials supplied, targets set, challenges experienced and best practices noted.
  • Ensure follow ups on agreed activities/strategies.
  • Perform other tasks as directed by the Head of Mobilization.
Required Minimum Qualifications & Experience:
  • Ability to lead, motivate and work in a team
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Diploma-level qualification in social work and community development or related studies
  • 2 years experience in community mobilization or Ministry of Health community structures
  • Preferably a resident of the division
Nurse

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Explain the MC protocol to the patients.
  • Scrub patients for the surgery.
  • Liaise with the cleaners to ensure that theatre is cleaned after and in readiness for circumcision of patients i.e. maintain and ensure sterility of the theatre environment.
  • Ensure the cleanliness and sterilisation of the instruments that are used in the circumcision before and after circumcision in liaison with the cleaning staff.
  • Conduct training for Ministry of Health Personnel and any other medical personnel during the society’s sessions with these parties.
  • Assist the Surgeon or Clinical Officer in theatre cases.
  • Maintain a regularly updated inventory of all surgical instruments and consumables.
  • Take an active role in the training of other Nurse in the MC project.
  • To screen patients and ensure that they are fit for surgery.
  • To ensure proper patients’ record keeping and accurate entry of data before and after surgery.
  • To give health education on preparation of surgery and post operative care.
  • To dispense pre-medication and post-operative analgesics.
  • Ensure patient safety before surgery, during surgery and immediately after surgery.
Required Minimum Qualifications & Experience
  • Minimum of 3 years relevant work experience in a recognized institution/organization.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • A diploma in nursing from a recognized institution

Counselor

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Provide voluntary HIV testing and counseling if need be, conduct a brief genital exam to assess circumcision status and to establish eligibility.
  • Explain the roll-out protocol and procedures of the MC to the clients.
  • Discuss return appointments for circumcision.
  • Administer consent to eligible clients.
  • Provide counseling on HIV risk-reduction behaviour.
  • Conduct interviews on socio demographic, behavioural and health information.
  • Educating MC clients on risks and benefits of MC.
  • Provide Voluntary HIV counselling and testing to MC clients.
  • Explain to the client the general procedure of MC session.
  • Discuss return appointments for MC clients.
  • Administer consent to eligible clients.
  • Provide counseling on HIV-risk-reduction behaviour (ABC).
  • Conduct interviews on socio demographic, behavioural and health information.
  • Offer on-going counseling to MC clients, guardians/parents.
  • Offer appropriate referral options to the clients.
  • Any other official duties that may be assigned to your supervisor.
  • Ensure all the necessary logistics are ready 24hours before the day of the surgery.
  • To implement and monitor infection prevention standards preop, intraop and post op.
  • To assist in Basic life support to clients during emergency.
  • Any other official duties assigned to you by your immediate supervisor.
Required Minimum Qualifications & Experience
  • Minimum of 3 years relevant experience in a recognized institution / organization.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • A diploma in Counseling from a recognized institution
