Accountant Job in Nairobi Kenya

Fintrac Inc, a leading international development company is seeking an experienced Project Accountant to implement USAID funded Kenya Agricultural Value Chain Enterprises Project (KAVES). 

The Project Accountant will be based at the program headquarters in Nairobi, and reports to the USAID-KAVES Finance Manager.

Primary responsibilities:
  • Ensure that all financial vouchers (bank transfers, check payments, deposits, cash withdrawals, funds transfers are prepared and coded correctly and all voucher have appropriate supporting documents.
  • Ensure that all internal invoices from KAVES are prepared on time and coded correctly.
  • Receipting and banking all funds received for various payments
  • Perform (daily) processing of all financial transactions
  • Comply with USAID’s local tax reporting requirements (submitted on a monthly basis)
  • Maintaining all program accounts in compliance with Fintrac’s accountancy rules, including but not limited to general ledger, cashbook and payroll.
  • Managing the posting of all financial transactions, on a daily basis, into Fintrac’s accounting system (Quick Books)
  • Reviewing and maintaining all field -level (KAVES) accounting records in original form prior to entries into Fintrac’s accounting system (Quick Books)
  • Management of petty cash
  • Ensure that all vouchers have been completed, bona fide, with legitimate supporting documentation, ensuring that all transactions are properly authorized.
  • Check that correct procedures are followed for all goods purchased by the program
  • Ensure that regular backups of data are completed 
  • Ensure the accuracy and completeness of financial transactions.
Skills and qualifications
  • Holder of a degree in Finance and Accounting
  • CPA(K)/ACCA holder
  • At least 5 years’ experience in the field of donor accounting
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel and QuickBooks accounting system
  • Applicants should have strong analytical, review and reporting skills
  • Ability to be self-managing and work as part of a team
  • Demonstrated knowledge of USAID Contracts regulations
