Position: Coffee Shop Assistant Manager

Job Summary:
Oversee and manage all areas of the Coffee Shop and make final decisions on matters of importance to guest service.
 
Job Responsibilities
  • Adhere to company standards and service levels to increase sales and minimize costs, including food, beverage, supply, utility and labor costs.
  • Responsible for ensuring that all financial (invoices, reporting) and personnel/payroll related administrative duties are completed accurately, on time and in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Regularly carry out a Profit and Loss account for the coffee shop to maximize profits.
  • Enforce sanitary practices for food handling, general cleanliness, and maintenance of kitchen and dining areas.
  • Maintain professional coffee shop image, including cleanliness, proper uniforms, and appearance standards.
  • Estimate food and beverage costs. Supervise portion control and quantities of preparation to minimize waste.
  • Estimate food needs, place orders with distributors, and schedule the delivery of fresh food and supplies.
  • Ensure that proper security procedures are in place to protect employees, guests and company assets.
  • Ensure a safe working and guest environment to reduce the risk of injury and accidents. Completes accident reports promptly in the event that a guest or employee is injured.
  • Manage shifts which include: daily decision making, scheduling, planning while upholding standards, product quality and cleanliness.
  • Investigate and resolve complaints concerning food quality and service.
  • Provide direction to employees regarding operational and procedural issues.
  • Conduct orientation, explain the company’s policies and procedures, and oversee the training of new employees.
  • Ability to cost and carry out food and breakfast training.
  • Carrying out marketing activities for the coffee shop.
  • Develop employees by providing ongoing feedback, establishing performance expectations and by conducting performance reviews.
  • Maintain an accurate and updated plan of the coffee shop staffing needs. Prepare schedules and ensure that the coffee shop is staffed for all shifts.
Qualifications & Skills:
 
Education:
  • Diploma in Hotel and Catering from a recognized institution.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in hotel/restaurant management will be an added advantage.
Experience:
  • 3+ years of progressively more responsible positions in the hospitality industry.
  • 2+ years of experience supervising staff in a similar role.
Required Skills:
  • Pleasant, polite manner, self-motivated, energetic, and enthusiastic team-player who is change-oriented and consumer-focused.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills with leadership ability.
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong customer relationships.
  • Proven ability to market a coffee shop to potential clients
  • Exceptional people skills, including personnel management.
  • Ability to motivate employees to work as a team to ensure that food and service meet appropriate standards.
  • Must be able to handle the pressures of simultaneously coordinating a wide range of activities and recommend appropriate solutions to the coffee shop problems.
  • Proficient with all Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word and Excel.
  • Accounting skills a must
