Description: Malteser International is an International NGO implementing medical projects in relief and development contexts in Africa, Asia and the Americas.

Its Administrative Support Unit (ASU) Africa is situated in Nairobi, Kenya tasked with the purpose of professionally complementing and monitoring the projects in Africa in all administrative aspects as an extended arm of the HQ in Germany.

Senior Accountant

Contract Period: Starting immediately till the end of the year with potential extension (annual budgets)

Job Description: The selected candidate will be heading the ASU and under the direct supervision of the Malteser International Country Coordinator:
 
Supervise and support a small team of ASU accountants in controlling monthly financial closure reports, particularly cash books, coming from Malteser project locations and in initiating required corrections

Preparation of budget controls and financial reports in accordance to respective donor standards and Malteser internal regulations
 
Play a supportive role in the annual Malteser budgeting process in Africa
 
Facilitate financial reports and documentation for Malteser annual closure and audit purposes
 
Facilitate training for Malteser staff and hold annual Africa Administration Workshop
 
Qualifications required:
 
The ideal candidate will be/possess:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Commerce or Finance and qualified accountant (ACCA, CPA (K) or equivalent). Master’s degree an added advantage
  • Min. 5 years managerial experience in accounting or finance area of non-profit organization or an international commercial organization and excellent understanding of financial systems and procedures
  • Strong analytical skills to successfully perform financial reviews and other forms of quantitative analyses
  • Highly organized and able to wisely prioritize and successfully perform multiple and complex tasks
  • Ability to produce thorough, high quality results within a tight timeframe and meet deadlines and deliverables to partners and donors
  • Extensive experience w/computerized accounting systems, spreadsheets and database programs
  • Excellent communication/interpersonal skills and able to function in an organizational environment with a diversity of cultures and good at role of facilitator & team player in solving problems
