Position: HVAC Technicians
Under direction of the supervisor
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform all Heating / Ventilation /
Air-Conditioning (HVAC) and refrigeration duties within AFEX
establishments.
- Installation, inspecting, testing,
commissioning and maintenance of HVAC systems and equipment, including
compressors, condensers, chillers.
- Conduct regular preventive maintenance
inspection of refrigeration units, and electrically operated air
conditioning equipments, including cleaning filters and compressors.
- Monitor, repair or replace defective parts in
units and equipment controls including thermostats, automatic switches,
fan control, compressors, heat exchangers, high limit controls, pressure
controls and safety valves.
- Perform skilled electrical maintenance work in
the repair, installation and alteration of HVAC equipment, components, motor
and wiring systems as needed.
- Test and examine operations, observing meters
and pressure gauge as well as perform any corrective maintenance
activities.
- Testing pipe or tubing joints or connections
for leaks using pressure gauge or soap-and-water solution.
- Joining pipes or tubing to equipment and to
fuel, water, or refrigerant source, to form complete circuit.
- Review design of HVAC equipment including
drawing, specifications/data sheets, material requisition and bills of
quantities.
- Perform / review cooling load calculations,
ventilation requirements, design drawings, and HVAC control systems.
- Joining pipes or tubing to equipment and to
fuel, water, or refrigerant source, to form complete circuit.
- Repairing or replacing defective equipment,
components, or wiring.
General Responsibilities:
- To carryout routine preventative maintenance
in line with job schedule and/or SOPs.
- Ensure cost efficient use of department
materials and equipment.
- Work together with department staff and
employees to provide an efficient maintenance service.
- Communicate and coordinate with superiors to
ensure safe and smooth running of camps with minimum disruption to client.
- Keeping tools of trade secure and in good
condition, reporting damages and losses immediately to supervisor.
- Keeping adequate stock of essential
maintenance spares and advising supervisor in good time when materials
require reordering.
Working Safe:
- Ensure that any work is done in line with
AFEX’s Health and Safety guidelines.
- Must be aware of the dangers and risks
specific to trade.
- Must be aware of what PPE is appropriate for
the tasks being undertaken.
- Must be aware of the correct methods of manual
handling, and risks of lifting heavy loads.
- Must be aware of the risks of working at
heights including work from ladders, scaffolds, and roofs.
- Must be aware of the risks of working in
enclosed/confined spaces, including trenches and tanks.
- Must be aware of the fire risks and what
action to take in the event of a fire.
- Must be aware of when a permit to work if
required for certain tasks.
- Must be aware of when Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO)
procedure must be followed.
- Safely cordon off area of work from public
before commencement of works.
- To understand the AFEX requirement for QHSE in
the workplace including employee and team responsibilities, to ensure
continuous adherence to QHSE policies, procedures and work instructions
and to proactively promote a quality, health and safety approach in all
areas of your work.
General Requirements:
- 3 years’ experience working in a similar role.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills to
work effectively within a team setting.
- Excellent verbal and written communication
skills.
- Must be available 24hrs for emergency call
out.
Minimum Qualifications/Trade Specific
Requirements:
- At least a Diploma in Refrigeration and Air
Conditioning Engineering
- Government Trade Test Three (3) in HVAC.
- Experienced and skilled at brazing.
- Maintain current electrician's license or
identification card to meet governmental regulations.
- Must been fully conversant with electrical
blue prints and single line diagrams.
- Must be competent in specifying cable sizes
and types according to load, distance, and conditions.
- Experienced with all electrical hand tools
such as: wire strippers & cutters, pliers, and crimping tools.
- Experienced with all electrical power tools
such as: electric drills, hole-saws.
- Experienced with all electrical test equipment
such as: multi-meters, earth test meters, multifunctional meters, phase
rotation meters and clamp meters.
- Knowledgeable and experienced with all
refrigerant gasses including R22, R134, and R410 and skilled at
refrigerant charging.
- Experience and ability to install HVAC without
supervision.
- Ability to diagnose and repair a wide variety
of equipment.
Job Title: Driver
Job Summary:Responsible for operating the Company’s motor vehicles and carrying out functions as required, including transfer of passengers, courier and delivery and ensuring that the vehicle is clean and road worthy.
Key Duties and Tasks:
- Complete a vehicle check first thing in the
morning and ensure that the vehicle is road worthy and in safe condition
prior to use.
- Keep assigned vehicles free from damage, in
acceptable condition, and consistently clean in a manner and report any
damage or mechanical malfunctions that exist.
- Operate vehicles and other equipment safely
and responsibly.
- Accurately complete and submit all necessary
paperwork, such as daily vehicle log sheets and delivery books and notes.
- Delivery and pickup of items, documentation
ensuring accurate capture of what the item/documentation is, who requested
the transport of the item, who received the item, and obtaining proper
signatures.
- Transport employees and other individuals as
directed, in a safe and responsible manner.
- Manage various products and merchandise
responsibly while in the act of loading, unloading, or transporting items,
ensuring that cargo is properly secured to avoid damage.
- Responsibility for proper use and maintenance
of keys. Keys must be properly checked in and out.
- Be willing and able to perform tasks without
direct supervision that may require physical labor, and possibly the use
of hand tools. This work may need to be performed both indoors and
outdoors in inclement weather.
- Work extra/overtime hours as needed according
to departmental workload.
- Maintain an excellent driving record
- Complete all other tasks as assigned.
- To understand the AFEX requirement for QHSE in
the workplace including employee and team responsibilities, to ensure
continuous adherence to QHSE policies, procedures and work instructions
and to proactively promote a quality, health and safety approach in all
areas of your work.

- Knowledge of the roads in Nairobi and its
environs.
- Speak English and Swahili
Job Title: Truck Driver

- Transport of goods from the Head Quarters to
and from field sites ensuring the Delivery Note accurately captures what
the goods are, who requested the transport of the items, who will receive
the item, and obtaining proper signatures.
- Perform the pre-inspection checks as required
by AFEX procedures and clients requirements.
- Manage various products and merchandise
responsibly while in the act of loading, unloading, or transporting items,
ensuring that cargo is properly secured to avoid damage.
- With permission from the TMM, pick up and
deliver goods for camp managers.
- Responsibility for proper use and maintenance
of keys. Keys must be properly checked in and out.
- Be willing and able to perform tasks without
direct supervision that may require physical labor, and possibly the use
of hand tools. This work may need to be performed both indoors and
outdoors in inclement weather.
- Work extra/overtime hours as needed according

Job Tittle: Steel Fixer
Summary: Steel fixer fit and secures the steel bars and mesh
used to reinforce concrete on construction and engineering sites.
They may also work in pre-cast
concrete plants, as well as in areas of pre-stressing, post-stressing and
tensioning, using hydraulic jacks and tensioning mechanisms.
Duties and Responsibilities
- setting out the work area following
engineering plans
- Using hand and power tools to cut and bend
bars or mesh
- Tying rebar (reinforcement bars)
together with wire, clips or welds to build up cages or sections
- Fitting spacers and ‘chairs’ (supports)
- Fixing the formwork and shuttering used to
hold setting concrete in place
- Joining cages and sections and Fixing steel to
concrete bases
- Installing beams and pre-cast slabs
- Reading and interpreting working plans and
steel lists for the job
- Making steel bars or meshing the required
length by cutting them with bolt cutters, guillotines or power saws
- Assembling the reinforcing bars or mesh by
welding, wiring or clipping into predetermined locations within the
concrete
- Fabricating steel reinforcement such as beams,
footing pads or special units
- Joining prefabricated units together for large
sections of high rise or civil projects, and position the reinforcement
ready for concrete pours.
Personal Requirements:
- At least a diploma in Civil Engineering or
Building and construction Engineering.
- 2-3 years of work experience in similar role.
- Able to cope with the physical demands of the
job.
- Able to work as part of a team.
