Home-Based Partner Education and Testing (HOPE) Study

Position:
Community Health Workers

2 Positions

Kisumu

Reporting to: Principal Investigator

Position Duties and Responsibilities:

·                     Administer questionnaires to participants using smart phones
·                     Perform Home Based Testing and Counseling
·                     Present basic education about HIV testing and prevention
·                     Convey the importance of facility delivery and exclusive breastfeeding
·                     Ensure proper administration of consent procedures
·                     Map household locations using smart phone’s GPS capabilities
·                     Prepare field reports and progress reports for the study coordinator
·                     Work collaboratively with an opposite gendered health worker
·                     Ensure that data are collected accurately and resolve any discrepancies
·                     Conduct participant follow-up activities and feedback sessions
Qualifications:
·                     Minimum of an O-Level Certificate Mean Grade C (Plain)
·                     Certificate in HTC or PITC
·                     Training in research ethics
·                     Minimum of 6 months previous experience with field research activities
·                     Experience with community mobilization.
·                     Basic computer skills particularly for Word-processing, spreadsheets and e-mail
·                     Familiarity with the Kisumu region and geography
·                     Strong communication skills in English, Kiswahili and Dholuo
Desirable qualities, skills and abilities:
·                     Experience in research, health and development
·                     Minimum of one year work experience in HTC service provision
·                     Diploma in psychology, sociology, Social Sciences, Community Work, Public Health, or Nursing
·                     Familiarity with smart phone technology for data collection
·                     Attention to detail and good work ethic
·                     Flexible and ability to work with minimal supervision
·                     Respectful, punctual, hardworking, conscientious
·                     Ability to work effectively as a member of a collaborative team
Expectations:
·                     Full-time position
·                     Position length is 9 months, provided good performance
·                     Yearly contracts offered based on period in financial year
·                     Competitive salary based on qualifications and experience
·                     Based in Kisumu, with travel throughout the surrounding area as needed

Position:Nurse Counselor 

1 Position

Kisumu
 
Reporting to:Study Coordinator

Position Duties and Responsibilities:
·                     Screen and enroll eligible women at the antenatal clinic
·                     Ensure proper administration of consent procedures
·                     Administer screening and enrollment questionnaires to participants
·                     Utilize Open Data Kit (ODK) on mobile phones to complete data collection
·                     Ensure that data are collected accurately and resolve any discrepancies
·                     Perform follow-up visits with participants in clinic setting
·                     Perform HIV rapid testing and counseling for adult participants
·                     Collect uncontaminated blood samples from infants on filter paper for HIV testing
·                     Present basic education about HIV testing and prevention
·                     Prepare weekly, monthly and quarterly reports for the Study Coordinator
·                     Provide on-going counseling and make relevant referrals for on-going support including medical clinics, TB clinics, support groups, post test clubs, etc.
·                     Assist with Maternal and Child Health activities as needed
·                     Perform other duties as directed by study coordinator
Qualifications:
·                     KRCHN or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing
·                     Minimum of one year previous experience in clinical or research activities
·                     Familiarity with HIV-testing, prevention, and treatment strategies
·                     Basic computer skills particularly for Word-processing, spreadsheets and e-mail
·                     Strong communication skills in English, Kiswahili and Dholuo
·                     Female candidates encouraged to apply
Desirable qualities, skills and abilities:
·                     Experience with couple counseling and HIV testing, PMTCT, and/or HIV treatment
·                     Certificate in Voluntary Counseling and Testing or HTC from NASCOP
·                     Training in research ethics
·                     Familiarity with smart phone technology for data collection
·                     Attention to detail and good work ethic
·                     Ability to work with minimal supervision
·                     Respectful, punctual, hardworking, conscientious
·                     Ability to work effectively as a member of a collaborative team
