Credit Administration Officer (Micro Credit and SME)

Responsible for Credit Analysis, Security Perfection and documentation

The Credit Administration Officer – Through teamwork will effectively handle credit administration function operations in order to ensure a secure & profitable line of business and a quality loan book in the Micro and SME customer segment, while reporting to the Head of Credit.

Key Duties
  • Risk Management - Evaluating and understanding of the risks associated with Individual, Micro and SME, products and borrowers and also in terms of credit and operations.
  • Appraising and making recommendations on credit proposals and ensuring compliance with the Institution’s Credit Policy, procedures and Service Level Agreements.
  • Authenticating documentation presented for all credit applications and ensuring that they meet the KYC requirements.
  • Vetting and analyzing collaterals/securities provided for approved facilities against facility letter’s terms and conditions of agreed covenants for Individual, Micro and SME customers.
  • Monitoring and periodic reviews of delinquent customer and their credit lines to ensure recovery strategies are performed.
  • Ensuring that all weekly, monthly and quarterly credit risk reports are properly prepared and presented to management for review.
  • Instructing the Institution’s external Lawyers on securities documents to prepare, perfect and register at the various Land and Company registries. Performing liaison role between the functions of the Institution and the lawyers, professional valuers and insurance companies approved by the Institution, ensuring service level agreements agreed are adhered to.
  • Instructing and following up with external service providers on NPA matters i.e debt collectors, auctioneers, valuers etc.
  • Perusing Internal Audit, and Credit Risk & Compliance reports to ensure that any shortcomings highlighted with regard to NPAs have been sufficiently addressed.
  • Ensuring that all related administrative functions, most importantly file maintenance, including regular stock inspections, call reports and periodic appraisals are performed in a timely manner.
  • Handling redemption and takeover of facilities from and to other financial institutions and ensure terms and conditions of undertaking are in our favor and are strictly adhered to.
  •  Point of contact for Branch Managers and Credit and operations teams on queries related to securities documentation processes, procedures and requirements as per the new land act and company act.
Minimum qualification and experience required:
  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in business/Finance/Law/Social Science or related field.
  • Lending and relationship management experience in the microfinance industry to create a balance between credit risk and customer service.
  • At least two (2) years’ experience in a credit function of a financial institution handiling Micro and SME clients.
  • Have an excellent interpersonal, analytical, organisational and people management skills.
  • Sound understanding of lending in the microfinance industry in Kenya.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with outstanding reporting skills.
