Motors East Africa Limited, the leading Automotive Company in the East Africa
Region, has a vacancy for a Senior Accountant based in Nairobi, Kenya.
Reporting
to the Financial Controller, the successful candidate will be responsible for
the following functions:
General
Purpose of the Position: The general purpose of this position is to lead in the
taxation and fixed asset accounting functions that support the development of
internal and external financial statements and reporting.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Complete required tax returns in a timely manner and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements in income tax, VAT, withholding tax and customs tax
- Ensure tax accounts are timely updated and reconciled
- Advise management on the impact of new laws on tax liabilities and tax impact of corporate strategies
- Liaise with external auditor to ensure corporation tax is accurately computed and remitted
- Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures and enhance internal financial controls
- Record fixed asset acquisitions, dispositions and depreciation in the accounting system and reconcile the general ledger
- Investigate the potential obsolescence of fixed assets and conduct periodic impairment reviews
- Prepare audit schedules relating to fixed assets, and assist auditors in their inquiries
- Track company expenditures for fixed assets in comparison to the capital budget and management authorizations
- Coordinate periodic physical inventory counts of fixed assets
For appointment to this position,
the successful candidate must have the following minimum requirements:
- Bachelors degree in either Accounting or Finance
- CPA (K) finalist
- At least five years accounting experience in taxation, fixed assets, general ledger
- Experience in an ERP environment will be an added advantage
- Proficiency in Microsoft programs such as MS Word, MS Excel and MS PowerPoint
- Good report writing, data analysis and presentation skills
