Recruitment at a Sugar Company in Kenya

An expanding company in the sugar industry in the Agricultural sector of Kenya wishes to employ dynamic, competent and self-driven individuals in the following vacant positions:


1. Transport Manager

The successful candidate will be responsible for:
  • Ensuring that sufficient tonnage of fresh cane is delivered to the factory in timely manner.
  • Continuously monitor and ensure for accountability for fuel consumption in relation to tonnage of cane delivered.
  • Ensuring for optimal utilization of the company’s transport fleet.
  • Effective managing and providing leadership for company drivers, loaders and other transport department personnel.
  • Liaising with relevant functional development to meet the company’s cane requirements in timely manner and that field operations are effectively planned and carried out.

The successful candidate must:

  • Have at least 3 years hands on experience in transport and logistics management in a large manufacturing with at least a diploma in transport and logistics or other relevant, related field.
  • Be energetic and firm and capable of working long hours in the field and be computer literate.

2. Workshop Manager

The successful candidate will be responsible for:
  • Inventory management of all tractor / heavy plant accessories and parts.
  • Monitory of fleet performance, fleet utilization and undertaking of performance improvement interventions.
  • Undertaking of fast, timely diagnosis of problems and fast trouble shooting.
  • Undertaking of cost effective, timely remedial and preventive maintenance.

The successful candidate must:
  • Have at least 6 years of hands on experience in a senior position in a busy workshop.
  • Strong, detailed through knowledge and understanding of tractors and heavy equipment.
  • Have good planning and operations management skills.

3. Electrical Engineer

The successful candidate will be responsible for:
  • Coordinating operations and maintenance of electrical equipment, including Turbo and DG sets.
  • Handling and maintaining heavy electrical equipment, DC/AC motors, VFD control systems, DC/AC automation systems with DCS, LT and HT control systems.
  • Testing, evaluating modifying, re-resting electrical parts/products and implementing electrical designs.
  • Maintaining electrical control systems and components to required specifications.
  • Interpreting electrical drawings, analyzing and interpreting data and approving final systems.

The successful candidate must:
  • Have at least 6 years relevant work experience in a large manufacturing firm, with a degree electrical engineering.
  • Have ability to work for long hours under pressure to meet deadlines.

4. Administration Manager

The successful candidate will be responsible for:
  • Ensuring that legal and insurance services are effectively coordinated to achieve desired results.
  • Coordinating the responsibility of obtaining insurance for the company
  • Coordinating the company to supply staff of pertinent information, office space and work tools in order to maintain smooth, risk-free operations.
  • Taking charge of security, occupational safety, health and environment.
  • Supervising and ensuring that contractors deliver services to the agreed quality and in timely manner.

The successful candidate must:
  • Have at least 6 years experience in a senior administration position in a large manufacturing firm, with a degree in Business Management/Administration or relevant field.
  • Have good planning, organizing, coordinating and operations management skills.

5. Human Resources Manager

The successful candidates will be responsible for:
  • Formulating and implementing of human resources business strategies with appropriate, relevant consultation
  • Coordinating recruitment and selection, employee retention, succession planning and performance management processes.
  • Maintaining, monitoring and periodically reviewing workforce levels to align same to company operational levels.
  • Managing workforce skills development programs.
  • Monitoring and evaluating workforce costs, relating to company operational levels.

The successful candidate must have:
  1. At least 6 years hands on experience in a senior human resources management position in a large firm, with both a degree in human resources management or relevant field,
  2. A post graduate diploma in human resources management.
  3. Good people management and operations skills.
