Assistant Chief Accountant

Our client a company in the automotive industry is seeking to recruit for the position of an assistant chief accountant.

This position is responsible for assisting the Chief Accountant in ensuring prudent and accurate fiscal management of company resources.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Understand and support the Company’s mission, vision, values and goals in the performance of activities.
  • Pro-actively advise and participate in implementing company policies, procedures and practices consistent with relevant accounting standards ensuring compliance.
  • Advise and supervise the preparation of branch / profit centre cost forecasts / budgets for approval, maintain systems for ensuring accurate and timely monitoring and representation of branch / cost center performance.
  • Advise and supervise the development and ensure the implementation of approved strategies for enhancing fiscal planning and controls at branches / profit centres.
  • Work consultative with the respective departments providing financial advisory support to periodically identified cost reduction initiatives.
  • Co-ordinate and ensure timely preparation of monthly consolidated financial statements, payments, cash-flow management reporting and presentation to Chief Accountant for review.
  • Initiate, and participate in scheduled and unscheduled periodic inventory checks and reporting and correcting any anomalies.
  • Analyze transactional processes, investigate, and corrects errors and inconsistencies in financial entries ensuring integrity of documents, and reporting identified areas for additional accuracies and efficiencies.
  • On daily / weekly / quarterly / annual basis and periodically as required co-ordinate and ensure the preparation, monitoring, the timely preparation of relevant financial reports to specified deadlines.
  • Pro-actively mentor, appraise, develop and review periodic performance of assigned staff utilizing teamwork to develop and maintain departmental synergy.
  • Keep upto date on applicable statutory requirements and advise company ensuring up-to-date company compliance.
  • Support the Chief Accountant in ensuring timely and accurate periodic closing of financial statements;
  • Work with both internal and external auditors during financial and operational audits.
  • Maintain system of accounts and keep records on all company transactions and assets.
  • Co-ordinate monthly accounts closing process and reconciliation of general ledger accounts.
  • Perform any other responsibilities as may be assigned by the management from time-to-time.

Qualifications:
  • University Degree in financial discipline &CPA/ ACCA qualification
  • Minimum of five (5) years experience with Two (2) years in a supervisory position in a busy accounting department (MUST)
  • MS Office Proficient with working knowledge of ERP
  • Extensive experience in financial reporting, internal control, financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting, audit and costing is advantageous.
  • Motor Industry experience is an added advantage.
