Accountant Job Vacancy

The Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) Somalia is an International Non-Governmental Organization registered in Kenya and operating in Somalia.

ADRA Somalia desires to hire a qualified and experienced professional to fill the position of Accountant.

Specific duties:
  • Assist in the implementation of Finance policies, procedures and systems.
  • Ensure compliance with ADRA Somalia procedures and guidelines.
  • Ensure timely Data entry for Grants you have been Assigned
  • Ensure expenditure worksheets from the Field to the Finance Head Office are submitted on or before 3rd of every subsequent month
  • Review all payment documents from the field for proper and adequate back up.
  • Review expenditure worksheets from the field for accuracy and completeness.
  • Prepare reconciliations (bank, administration, cash and project) by 3rd of every month.
  • Ensure that statutory deductions are paid on time to avoid any penalty
  • Forward to the HR Manager every month, an outstanding personal advances and charges related to personal Accounts for recovery. Ensure that advances taken in a given month are liquidated appropriately.
  • Conduct a time sheet audit for field office from time to time.

Logistics duties
  • Review all Purchase orders and Purchase Requests for proper coding and budget adequacy before approval.
  • In liaison with Logistics department, prepare commitment lists when Grants are ending for financial obligations already entered into but not captured in financial reports.

Finance/Budgeting/Donor Reports
  • Working with Program Staff to prepare Grant Budgets to support new proposals or realignments.
  • Preparation of Budget Versus Actual Monthly reports and ensure they are provided to relevant staff on a timely basis.
  • Prepare Donor Reports as per Donor Agreements and Contracts
  • Ensure Donor regulations are adhered to the Grants you have been assigned.
  • Provide training to program staff on finance issues.
  • Produce monthly and quarterly reports to be reviewed by Finance Manager/

Field Office training & support
  • By frequent visits to the field offices providing training to finance staff accounting procedures and requirements, assist the field coordinators and program staff in finance related issues and activities.
  • Train field managers on budget tracking, review burn rates and provide advise if spending is not happening according to plan.

Other duties
  • Take lead on grant audits and verification

Qualification
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of accounting experience in a busy accounting environment preferably NGOs.
  • CPA III or its equivalent
  • Computer literate with significant experience in excel, accounting package knowledge (SUN system) will be an added advantage.
