Hillcrest International Schools comprises of three schools: Hillcrest Early Years, Hillcrest Preparatory and Hillcrest Secondary / Senior. We admit students from 18 months to 18 years. We are an international British Curriculum based learning institution, located in Karen, Nairobi and have a very conducive environment for learning and working.

We are seeking to recruit experienced PSV Drivers for our expanding school transport. Applicants must be courteous, fluent in spoken English and have a minimum education of KCSE mean grade D+ and above with clean driving license and no criminal record. Preference will be given to applicants willing to reside at the schools’ residential estate in Karen. Those with experience in school transport will have added advantage.

Job Title: School Driver

Responsible to: Estate and Transport Manager

Overall Purpose: Assigned with responsibility for safe driving of students and staff. Always act in a manner to portray the school’s good customer relationship officer.

Duties Tasks and Responsibilities
  • Regularly clean and polish the vehicle, change tyres as well as make minor repairs or adjustments.
  • Drive motor vehicle (car and van) to transport students, staff, clients and others to designated locations.
  • Load and offload baggage for students and staff goods and other material supplies with due regard to the safety of other people.
  • Maintain records of the motor vehicle’s daily activity showing journey, mileage, petrol, oil and signature of authorising officer to account for all the journeys made.
  • Regulate the radio, heating, lighting and ventilation system for passenger comfort.
  • Observe traffic and safety precautions in order to prevent accidents and to avoid traffic violations. In addition, undertakes first aid in case of injuries.
  • Report motor vehicle accident to the traffic police and the Estate & Transport Manager obtaining police abstract report and completing insurance accident report form in conformance to traffic rules and regulations.
  • Any other task allocated to you by the Head of Department.

Academic Qualifications and Job Requirements
  • Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education mean Grade D+ with a pass in English and Kiswahili Languages
  • Driving License Class A, B, C, E
  • Valid PSV
  • Valid Certificate of Good Conduct from Criminal Investigation Department (CID)
  • First Aid course from Kenya Institute of Highways & Building Technology or equivalent
  • Suitability test Grade III and Occupational Test for driver Grade III
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Experience from an Education Institution will be an added advantage
  • Minimum four years relevant experience driving all type of vehicles in different terrains and weather conditions

Key Competencies
  • Ability to follow detailed oral and written instructions including operating and maintenance manuals.
  • Knowledge of transport routes in both urban and rural areas in the country and ability to interpret road maps and rough hand drawn sketches.
  • Ability to interpret and comply with safety codes, traffic rules, regulations, and safe.
  • Ability to perform safety inspections, recognize and report mechanical problems, perform preventive maintenance check (oil, and all fluid levels, tire pressure) etc.
  • Ability to maneuver vehicle in tight spaces, judging distance in congested and confined positions.
  • Ability to operate vehicles at night and in all types of severe weather conditions, in mountainous areas or on rough steep terrain and loose surfaces.
  • Ability to lift and load/offload heavy goods and demonstrate complete knowledge of materials transported and their characteristics in order to deliver material safely to job location taking into account weight restrictions.

The above duties may be varied at the reasonable discretion of the Estate and Transport Manager, to meet the dynamic needs of the school.
