Background: Jacaranda Health is a social venture that aims to set a new standard for maternity care in East Africa. We are combining business and clinical innovations to provide affordable maternity and reproductive health services to low-income urban women.

As we are building our network of maternity hospitals, we have launched one maternity hospital in Nairobi in 2012, are opening a second one in a couple of weeks.

We are now seeking to hire Theatre Technicians who will work in the Theatre in our hospital at Kahawa West.

Duties and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Hospital Manager and working closely with the nurses and the physicians, the successful candidates will be responsible for the following amongst others:
  • Cleaning the operating rooms and equipment.
  • Preparing theatre machines for surgery.
  • Availing the necessary accessories for operations.
  • Assisting in positioning patients before, during and after surgery.
  • Ensuring that the operative lights, air conditioners and related items are regulated and in good working condition.
  • Assist nurses to provide antenatal care, postnatal care,
  • Provide friendly, helpful service to all patients such as health education to women awaiting appointments
  • Observe patients, identify emergency signs, and assist nurses in treating or referring these cases
  • Be involved in other duties such as the routine duties such as assisting in taking observations, recording patient data, bed making, cleaning in a maternity setting, bathing of patients, serving patients food, etc.

Requirements:
  • Theatre Technician Certificate (preferably Anesthetic)
  • At least 2-3 years of clinical experience, preferably working in a maternity environment (Preferably C- Sections)
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills and empathy; equally comfortable providing one-on-one counseling and presenting birth-preparedness education to groups
  • A commitment to providing high quality care, and the curiosity and commitment to excellence needed for continuous quality improvement
  • Computer literacy, with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to work effectively with a team in a culturally diverse environment
