KickStart is an award-winning, global nonprofit social enterprise that develops and mass-markets low-cost irrigation solutions that are bought by thousands of small-holder farmers in developing countries and used to increase their income by up to a factor of ten, enabling them to lift themselves sustainably out of poverty.

Using an entrepreneurial business model, KickStart has proven its cost- effective solution to poverty in Kenya, Tanzania, Mali and Burkina Faso, as well as in a dozen of other African countries where, over recent years, it has developed strategic partnerships through its Global Institutional Partnership Division (GIP).

KickStart and IKEA Foundation have partnered to expand KickStart’s presence in Zambia and the surrounding countries.

The project will develop and implement the latest innovations in KickStart’s model of selling equipment at the Base of the African Rural Pyramid to Small-Holder-Farmers across the region

Job Title: Human Resource and Admin Officer - Zambia Program

Function: Human Resources and Administration    

Location: Lusaka, Zambia

Type of Contract: Open Ended

Role Purpose: To provide HR services and consultation to the leadership of the country program assigned and manage administrative responsibilities and team.

Scope of Role: Reports to the: Country Director with dotted line responsibility to the Director HR and Administration KickStart International based in Nairobi-Kenya.

Staff directly reporting to this post: Admin Assistant/Office Assistant

Works with: All teams.

Key Areas of Accountability:
  • Provides consultation, input and feedback on human resource issues within the country program.
  • Coaches and counsels staff on a variety of organizational issues to promote a positive work environment and provide guidance on KickStart policies, procedures, laws and regulations.
  • Administers compensation and benefit plans within the corporate framework.  May have some unique aspects based on local legislation or custom.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of country program strategic plan with ownership of the human resources area of the plan
  • Assist in workforce planning and staffing activities within the country program with a focus on diversity
  • Manages employee communication within the country program.  This includes bulletin board management, employee mailings, assisting with employee meetings and other such activities to communicate with employees on relevant topics
  • Manages training and development activities within the country program, including planning for training, administering and delivering.
  • Manage the administration team and the admin operations in Zambia

Qualifications and Experience
  • First degree in a relevant course, with at least 2 years’ experience as Human Resource generalist in an International NGO set up.
  • Must have post-graduate training in Human Resource Management
