Principal Officer - Materials & Equipment Management

We are pleased to announce the following vacancy in the Network Engineering Department within the Technology Division.

In keeping with our current business needs, we are looking for a person who meets the criteria indicated below:

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Network Engineering Programs the role holder will be responsible for the management of materials and equipment forecast, order placements, issuance, recovery, Asset tracking, inventory management, and stock utilization for all Network Engineering projects and programs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Forecast, purchase and delivery of equipment and materials for all Network Engineering projects and programs;
  • Materials and equipment warehousing management for the Network Engineering projects and programs;
  • Management of recovery, utilization and/or disposal of materials and equipment as per agreed usage and disposal plans;
  • Management of Purchase Requisitions and Orders for materials, equipment and services for all Network Engineering projects and programs;
  • Inventory management of all equipment
  • CAPEX Budget Control.

Role Requirements
  • Degree in Building Economics, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Supply Chain Management or equivalent qualifications;
  • At least 5 years’ experience in Materials and Equipment procurement and warehousing;
  • At least 3 years construction experience on GSM related projects;
  • Project management certification and experience.

Senior Manager - Radio Access Engineering

We are pleased to announce the following vacancy in the Network Engineering Department within the Technology Division.

In keeping with our current business needs, we are looking for a person who meets the criteria indicated below:

Reporting to the Head of Network Engineering the role holder will be responsible for Radio Network Planning, Core Access planning - BSC & RNCs; Central guideline on parameterisation; Access strategy & Trials for Radio and Centralised capacity planning and dimensioning.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Define, guide and Coordinate rollout activities;
  • Plan for Quality, Coverage & Capacity sites;
  • Coordinate timely release of all new sites plans for the entire Safaricom network;
  • Define, guide, co-ordinate and manage Quality improvement activities;
  • Trials :Manage trial test for new radio technologies and features;
  • Develop consistent engineering rules to be used in New Site Planning;
  • Manage Vendor/Opco relationships;
  • Define, guide, Coordinate and manage capacity improvement activities within the regions;
  • Prepare CAPEX forecasts and budgets to meet business requirement, to monitor and control CAPEX and OPEX expenditure for the section as required;
  • Attract & recruit the best talent
  • Drive attainment of efficiencies through automation of processes/activities

Role Requirements;
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Science, with an emphasis in Radio communications;
  • 5 years experiences in telecommunications with 3 years minimum hands–on experience in Radio Network planning Optimization, one of which must be in leading a major design, planning and optimization program for rural and urban centers.
  • In-depth knowledge of 2G and 3G network planning
  • Understanding of 4G technologies
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in managing a team within a radio planning and optimization environment.
  • In depth knowledge of traffic modeling techniques
  • Proficiency In use of planning tools and drive test analysis software.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
