Program Director Job in Kenya

The International Institute of Rural-Africa Regional Center (IIRR-ARC) is seeking to recruit a suitably qualified candidate for the following position:

Program Director (PD)

Job Summary

The job holder will be responsible for spearheading the provision of high quality demand lead services in knowledge and documentation management for IIRR clients and external partnership projects.

This includes editing, re-writing and science simplification writing, proposal generation for publication work, planning for “writeshops” and facilitation responsibilities.

Under the direction of the RD, the PD will deliver meeting and workshops to clients in support of their goals. S/he must be multilingual (English and French).
Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Delivering effective, interactive workshops such as “writeshops” (participatory writing workshops organized to produce books, policy briefs, simplify scientific papers for clients and partners) both in-house and as part of IIRR outreach strategies;
  • Contribute to production of quality documents by the Applied Learning team;
  • Prepare reports for writeshops, IIRR managed conferences and learning forums and related assignments;
  • Maintain knowledge of current development issues and tailor seminars and workshops to reflect these issues;
  • Provide input on program revisions and improvements;
  • Analyze and used implication of participant evaluations after each workshop including conduct defined customer satisfaction surveys for workshop activities to inform design strategies for future workshop/ meeting improvement;
  • Use provided materials to ensure consistent and standardized delivery and participant experience;
  • Play a lead role in preparing and disseminating a range of public information materials including newsletters, annual reports, brochures, flyers and website content;
  • Maintain accurate up-to-date documentation of client workshop activities for database input;
  • Provide appropriate guidance/support to consultants and staff in designing and production of IIRR training and communication materials;
  • Establish sound partnership with civil society, government and private sector players;
  • Facilitate writing of technical proposals and prepare budgets for assignment bids;
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
  • A master’s degree in development communication, journalism, or equivalent
  • Five (5) years experience preferably in a development organization, in writing and editing, facilitating/workshop delivery in an adult educational environment;
  • Experience in public speaking and use of Microsoft Office Applications: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Outlook, etc;
  • Superior oral and written communication skills in English and French;
  • Candidates must be able to work with a diverse population;
  •  Ability to work in a performance based system with a proven track record of meeting targets and outcomes is essential;
  • Flexibility regarding assigned work hours and location
  • Good computer skills especially in desktop publishing, and website management. Originality innovation and creativity in design and packaging of information for communication;
  • Experience in writing proposals;
  • Ability to work calmly under pressure to beat deadlines while maintain quality. 

Period of contract: Two (1) year renewable
