Job Description

The job holder will be responsible to the Managing Director and is tasked with representing the company’s brand and reputation in public, through both oral and written communication.

He/she is the face of the organization, interacting with employees, clients, the media and other stakeholders.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Shaping and implementing the Company’s public relations policy, strategy and activities for effective internal and external communications.
  • Work closely with management team to keep the staff well informed on public policy issues, debates and trends and providing proactive advice on the impact and relevance of issues to the company businesses.
  • Be a leading voice for the company in industry partners, trade associations, advocacy organizations, multi-lateral organizations, and industry coalitions.
  • Champion the company’s values
  • Provide regular briefing to the Managing Director on external political, economic and policy developments with an impact on company performance.
  • Implement the company’s corporate social responsibility programme.
  • Receive and analyse customer complaints and recommend necessary communication to win and retain stakeholders’ confidence in the company.
  • Provide digital engagement  communication and leadership
  • Analyse and review corporate communication. Legal  and internal documents to form basis of advice to the Managing Director
  • Record and prepare Management meeting minutes in a timely manner.

Job qualifications

For appointment to this position, a candidate must have;
  • A Bachelor’s degree in communications or Business with a focus on public relations.
  • At least two (2) years working experience in a relevant communications field.
  • Good working knowledge of the Eastern African region; its institutions, media networks, its politics and current environmental, publishing and educational issues.
  • Understanding of corporate disciplines including confidentiality, mutual briefing and acting within limits of authority and corporate governance.
  • Advanced IT skills including handling of databases.
  • An interest in, and commitment to, educational and publishing issues.
