Job Purpose

As Maintenance Manager for the Kenya site you will manage and supervise all activities with relation to maintenance and repair of manufacturing machinery and equipment and utility supplies.

You will ensure quality repairs and servicing of manufacturing machinery and equipment, uninterrupted utility supplies, ensure correct and precise work on production lines, in accordance with plans defined by Plant Manager and International best practices.

Key Accountabilities

In line with the job purpose, key accountabilities will entail the following:
  • Oversee, manage and recommend for development all employees in maintenance department
  • Budget, monitor and proactively manage the maintenance costs, ensuring the focus of the maintenance organization on achieving budgets and cost targets while maintaining quality, safety and productivity standards
  • Support production to meet the needs of the plant’s customers in volume, time and mix required, within the budgeted costs and quality standards
  • Support implementation of the Quality Chain Management System and ensure the company’s quality requirements in relation to buildings, machinery and equipment are met at all times within scope of the position’s responsibility.
  • Support implementation of the Kraft Safety, Security and Environment protection (SSE) management system and ensure the company’s SSE requirements in relation to utilities, machinery and equipment are met at all times within scope of the position’s responsibility.
  • Ensure full compliance of all maintenance operations with safety and quality statutory requirements through regular inspections of electrical, lifting and other high hazard equipment. Report findings and follow up on repairs required.
  • Ensure effective planning processes and communication are in place between maintenance team and the rest of the plant to allow smooth flow of information, flexibility to support plant operations and proactive solutions to issues, which arise.
  • Be an engineering resource in the plant
  • Participate in identifying Continuous Improvement opportunities and lead CI project implementation initiatives
  • Optimize the performance of the operation through delivery of benefits from productivity improvement and capital expenditure programmes
  • Maintain a relentless focus on waste reduction and process improvements
  • Provide plant technical support/troubleshooting knowhow. Co-operate effectively with other departments in order to plan and run timely maintenance and preventive repairs of manufacturing machinery and equipment. Provide uninterrupted Maintenance & Repair administration and accountancy. Guarantee short/medium term maintenance planning in order to reduce production interruptions. Ensure efficient planning of machine/plant overhauls and recurrent maintenance activities
  • Technical mastery and trainer in Food Drinks manufacturing processes and process improvement techniques.

Person Specification
In order to succeed in this role, it is expected that the ideal candidate will have:
  • Minimum University degree in mechanical, electrical/electronics, production or mechatronics Engineering disciplines
  • At least 5 years professional experience in Engineering or Maintenance & Repairs in a food processing factory
  • Good knowledge of food processing or food technology
  • Experience in Continuous Improvement techniques such as 6-Sigma and/or Lean Manufacturing
  • Financial planning, budgeting, cost analysis skills
  • Management skills to effectively lead and direct the maintenance staff
  • Good communication and teaching skills
  • Good PC skills in Maintenance management applications (SAP Maintenance, RCMII) and MS Office applications
  • Ability to build strategic working relationships internally and with external stakeholders of diverse backgrounds
  • Good analytical skills
