Caritas Switzerland and Caritas Luxembourg act in the frame of a Memorandum of Under-standing (MoU) as a consortium in the Eastern Africa and the Horn of Africa with a focus on education, strengthening of civil society, food security and water, hygiene and sanitation. 

We operate a joint Liaison Office in Nairobi; have Country Offices in Somaliland (Hargeisa) and South Sudan (Torit) and a Representative in Ethiopia (Addis Ababa).
 
During the 2011 Horn of Africa Crisis, Caritas Switzerland/Luxembourg (Caritas) responded in Kenya with emergency projects Marsabit, Wajir, Turkana, Dadaab, Kitui and Ngong. 

The in-terventions focussed on WASH and Food Security to mitigate the impacts of drought on pas-toralist communities. 

For one of its follow-up WASH project in Marsabit, Kenya, Caritas is seeking to recruit a competent Technical Field Coordinator (WASH) for its field office in Laisamis with a strong supervisory background.
 
Position: Technical Field Coordinator (WASH) – Laisamis
 
Reporting to: Humanitarian Delegate
 
Duration: 18 months
 
Location: Marsabit County, Marsabit South District, Laisamis project office, with frequent travel to project sites in the same district and occasional travel to Nairobi
 
Key tasks & responsibilities
  • Overall coordination and responsibility of project implementation with special focus on construction work of water structures;
  • Monitor regularly the progress and the timely implementation of WASH activities as out-lined in the project documents;
  • Conduct technical supervision of all construction work, ensuring designs, drawings, bills of quantities and technical specifications are followed and respected;
  • Extensive field visits (about 80% of working time) in order to follow up, supervise, coordi-nate and report the construction activities;
  • Train local artisans;
  • Oversee all materials purchases and deliveries;
  • Ensure that materials and equipment’s used for construction works are of acceptable qual-ity;
  • Ensure that all infrastructure works are in line with Caritas selection criteria and interven-tion practices;
  • Carry out monthly planning and provides monthly status reports on on-going infrastructure activities; and
  • Document lessons learnt on strategic approaches (e.g. procurement, payment, recruit-ment, implementations, planning)
Essential requirements & qualifications
  • Higher diploma in civil engineering or water engineering;
  • Minimum of eight years proven experience in either relief or development work with non-governmental organisations including managing community based water projects with evidence of successful implementation of similar projects;
  • Experience in technical supervision of WASH structures;
  • Experience in ASAL of Kenya;
  • Proficiency in MS Office;
  • Excellent social skills including communication, management and leadership;
  • Strong analytical capacity – working and thinking on an academic level;
  • Ability to work in multi-cultural environment and sensitivity to cultural values;
  • Proven ability to work independently with a minimum of supervision;
  • Motivated, dynamic and committed;
  • Accurate and responsible attitude and way of working; and
  • Complete accountability
