JA Africa, the Africa regional operating center for Junior Achievement Worldwide, is seeking a full time Program Director for its start-up operation in Gabon. 

The main role of the Program Director is to establish JA presence in Gabon, start program implementation within schools and among marginalized youth and develop and implement a strategic plan to expand the scope and reach of JA in Gabon by the end of year one. 

The position, based in Libreville, is for a one year renewable contract.  

Successful candidate must be a citizen of Gabon.

The successful candidate shall have a demonstrated record of success in teacher training, volunteer leadership, corporate fundraising, program implementation, marketing and promotions, and special-events management. 

A visionary self-starter, this organization’s leader must be able to work with minimal supervision in a professional environment. 

Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills and ability to manage staff and multiple, critical tasks at the same time.  

Specific responsibilities include:
  • Registering JA as a charitable, not-for-profit organization in Gabon
  • Developing a five year strategic plan for the expansion of JA Gabon
  • Training teachers and facilitators on the implementation of JA’s financial literacy, work readiness and entrepreneurship programs
  • Project management
  • Financial management
  • Personnel management
  • Fundraising
  • Stakeholder relationship management (including donors, government, volunteers and NGO/CBO partners)
Requirements
  • A college diploma or bachelor’s degree in Business Management or Finance with at least five years, relevant post graduate community development experience.
  • Relevant nonprofit management or entrepreneurship
  • Fluency in English and French

Finance / Admin Officer for its start-up operation in Gabon. 

The main role of the Finance/Admin Officer is to provide financial, accounting and administrative support to ensure the efficient operation of the JA Gabon office and projects.  

The position, based in Libreville, is for a one year renewable contract.  

Successful candidate must be a citizen of Gabon.

The successful candidate shall have a demonstrated record of success in accounting and office administration.  

Knowledge of teacher training and special-events management will be a plus. 

Specific responsibilities:
  • Prepare/monitor overall expenditures against budgets and match budgets against approved budget line items
  • Create and maintain monthly financial reports to ensure timely monitoring of JA Gabon expenses
  • Coordinate approval and/or payment for all invoices, check requests, and other expenses
  • Ensure financial policies and procedures are being maintained in the operations of JA Gabon
  • Ensure transactions are properly recorded and entered into a computerized accounting system
  • Oversee the management of petty cash by designated custodian
  • Maintain proper accounting records in respect to invoices, cashbook and payment vouchers.
  • Ensure good Accounting systems/internal controls for external and internal audit reviews
  • Prepare and maintain a fixed Asset Register
  • Manage payroll and prepare and file monthly statutory returns
  • Prepare Bank reconciliation statements
  • Manage vendors and ensure supplier reconciliation and payment
  • Coordinate posting of updates on the JA Gabon website and Facebook page
  • Coordinate information for all communication platforms needs to be gathered and submitted to the JA Africa regional operating center
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent diploma in Accounting or Finance with at least three years post-graduation experience
  • Extensive knowledge of preparing financial business report and statements
  • Proficiency in Windows 98/XP, MS office suit (word, excel, access, PowerPoint) and internet
  • Well versed in GAAP, taxation, auditing/Quality Assurance; conversant with international reporting standards and Knowledge of managerial and cost accountancy
  • Nonprofit accounting experience
  • Fluency in English and French
