Location:
Kigali,
Rwanda
The
selected candidate will have operational and analytical responsibilities,
contribute and provide support to a variety of economic tasks on Rwanda.
The
selected candidate will work within the Rwanda economic team, led by a Lead
Economist based in Nairobi, Kenya and comprising also Senior Economist based in
Kigali, Rwanda.
The Economist will perform operational and research responsibilities and provide support for a variety of economic tasks (i.e. economic analyses, design of economic work program, and participation in economic policy dialogue, outreach and research) under the supervision of the Lead and Senior Economists.
Specific
tasks include;
(i)
leading or co-leading biannual Rwanda Economic Update;
(ii)
Contributing a programmatic public expenditure review;
(iii)
analyzing macroeconomic and sectoral data, especially updating and reviewing
the World Bank Rwanda’s data files based on periodic data provided by the
Central Bank and the National Institute of Statistics;
(iv)
formulating and maintaining a macroeconomic model for Rwanda;
(v)
contributing substantially to sectoral, micro, and macroeconomic policy issues
in research contexts;
(vi)
writing technical reports and conducting economic research on macroeconomic
related issues;
(vii)
preparing briefs and analytical notes, and contributing to the writing of
sections in analytical reports, in particular for the biannual Rwanda Economic
Updates;
(viii)
providing support to various outreach activities by participating in technical
working groups and discussion fora);
(ix)
facilitating missions by colleagues from Africa Poverty Reduction and Economic
Management Department (AFTP2) and engaging with sector colleagues and country
based staff on economic issues and supporting the Country Management Unit (CMU)
in the implementation of the World Bank’s Rwanda program.
Selection criteria:
The
successful candidate should have at least a Master’s degree or equivalent in
economics, or a related social science field with a strong quantitative
orientation with at least 3-5 years of relevant experience; plus demonstrated
experience.
S/he
should have strong analytical and quantitative skills with experience in
working with econometric packages (e.g., EViews, STATA) and spreadsheet models
and experience in working with macroeconomic data and writing macroeconomic
research reports.
S/he
should have ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, multi-cultural
environment and strong interpersonal skills.
