Technical Consultant – Capacity Building Program Handbook
 
Overview:
 
In Kenya, m2m is supporting national scale-up of the Kenya Mentor Mother Program. 

Through this process, m2m has expanded from its core program of peer education and psychosocial support, into a new program approach of capacity building partner organizations and the MOH. Many of these new capacity building services have been well-defined and documented, while others are still under development and require clearer definition and documentation.

Building on the achievements to date, m2m is now looking for an external consultant to facilitate the program design of outstanding components of the capacity building program, and to lead the documentation of this program in the form of a user-friendly handbook. 

Purpose of the Consultancy:
 
The purpose of the consultancy is to lead the development of a Program Handbook for m2m Kenya’s capacity building program, resulting in:
  • Well-defined program services and standards, aligned to country team approaches and HQ technical guidance
  • Easily accessible program guidance and tools for use by m2m employees
  • Enhanced uniformity and quality of m2m Kenya’s capacity building services 
Key Areas of Responsibility:
 
Overall:
  • Develop and manage a consultancy work plan detailing key milestones and deliverables
  • Report progress to the Liaison Officer on a bi-weekly basis
Detailed Responsibilities: 
  • Liaise with key stakeholders across the organization to create and manage an effective process for Handbook development, including definition of target audience, objectives, table of contents, and utilization
  • Work with content experts throughout the organization (both in Kenya and at HQ) to develop and refine Handbook content
  • Guide and facilitate the design of missing or undefined content areas
  • Field test Handbook content and layout with key stakeholders
  • Solicit input and feedback to develop a final draft for management review and approval
  • Combine all components of the Handbook into one final document and conduct critical style, format and grammar review
Required Competencies & Experience
  • Masters degree in health sciences or a related field, or commensurate experience
  • Demonstrated experience leading the programmatic design and/or documentation of organizational capacity building programs
  • Strong facilitation and oral communication skills
  • Strong writing, editing and proofreading skills, with high attention to detail
  • Experience with material development and/or instructional design with a variety of audiences and topic areas
  • Ability to develop effective processes for consultation and meaningful participation of stakeholders at multiple levels
  • Experience with participatory methods and techniques related to material and/or program design
  • Experience with peer education models, and/or HIV/MCH distinct advantages
  • Cultural sensitivity and ability to effectively engage participants of different cultures and backgrounds
Scope of Work/Expected Deliverables:
  1. Management-approved Handbook table of contents and sample content structure
  2. Draft Handbook (including documentation of introductory content and 75% of program services)
  3. Final Handbook
Estimated Timeline (Negotiable): Work to be completed during part-time or full-time the months of June, July & August, 2013
