Director Strategic Communication

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Director Strategic Communication will be in charge of the Board's Strategic Communication function and will work closely with the Director Marketing to deliver quality country branding programmes and initiatives.

The overall responsibility of the Director will be to oversee the formulation and implementation of communication policies and procedures, and formulating and directing the Board's communication strategy.

This position is responsible for managing the communication component of country branding strategies, through effective public relations, reputation and image management initiatives, at both National and International level in line with the Board's Strategic Plan.

Key Responsibilities:-

  • Develop and implement appropriate communication policies and procedures for the Board;
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive communication strategy to create and sustain awareness of the Board's mandate in line with its Strategic Plan;
  • Oversee the implementation of the Communication component of the National Brand Master Plan;
  • Create and maintain cordial working relationships with various media organizations and other stakeholders to achieve results as per the Board's Strategic Plan;
  • Design and administer the annual communication plan and related operations budget for the Board;
  • Provide leadership to both internal communication resources and external agencies;
  • Collaborate with the Marketing Department to achieve an effective integrated communication strategy for the Board;
  • Regularly interact with stakeholders to promote best interests and convergence of communication branding initiatives;
  • Manage the image and reputation of the Kenya Brand in liaison with Government departments and other institutions in order to forge a common platform for promoting Kenya Brand and clarity of purpose;
  • Monitor media on issues related to Brand Kenya Board and advise the CEO on matters relating to communication;
  • Plan and manage rapid response communications in situations of media crisis, disasters or other major emergencies to which the Board will respond in line with its mandate;
  • Oversee development and dissemination of positive media content and audio visual material for media and public consumption;
  • Oversee the activities of the Communication Department, be responsible for all the Department's staff, their career development, training and motivation and be accountable to the CEO for the Department's performance;
  • Any other duties that may be assigned by the CEO and/or the Board of Directors.
Key qualifications:

A Masters degree in Communication/Journalism or related field as well as a post graduate diploma qualification in communication;
  • A Bachelors degree in Communication/Public Relations / Journalism or related field;
  • At least ten (10) years experience in a dynamic corporate affairs and/or communication function;
  • Proven track record in developing and implementing a communication strategy and program;
  • Excellent leadership, interpersonal, team playing and facilitation skills; and,
  • Member of a professional body e.g. CIPR, PRSK, AMWIK, etc.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of privileged information and ensure absolute discretion and sensitivity to confidential matters
  • Excellent writing and editing skills – English and Kiswahili; and,
  • Knowledge of creative design and print production processes

An attractive remuneration package commensurate with the responsibilities of the positions will be negotiated with the right candidates. 

The successful candidates will work on a three (3) year contract renewable subject to satisfactory performance of the roles and responsibilities.
