Radio Planning Engineer

Reporting to: Head of Radio Access Network
Range: R3
Department: IT & Network – Operations & Maintenance

Role Purpose: 

This role is responsible for GSM and UMTS Planning and Design, Frequency and scrambling code planning and design and Coverage Optimization as per network KPI’s. 

Reporting to RAN manager.

Key Duties and Responsibilities.
  • Planning and design of macro outdoor sites for  the orange GSM/UMTS mobile network using ASSET planning tool
  • Planning and design of indoor sites for  the orange GSM/UMTS mobile network using WANDA planning tool
  • Planning, design and commissioning of Repeater sites
  • Design of the frequency and scrambling code strategy
  • Neighbour Plan strategy
  • Outdoor and indoor site survey and site selection
  • Preparation of the following documents on “Click on site” management tool:
Fn1 documents containing nominal site location details
Fn2a document detailing radio survey results e.g.  candidate selection details
Fn4a and Fn4b documents defining site specifications and coverage objectives
Validation of technical joint visit reports prepared by subcontractor company
Validation of technical file report to verify that site was built according to Fn4b
Validation of Fn5 report
Validation of Fn8b report
  • Coverage optimization
  • Definition of drive test protocols and procedure for drive tests
  • Carry out drive test
  • Drive test analysis using ACTIX tool
  • Preparation of Fn4m documents for any network changes
  • Issuing of work orders using SWAN tool for various network operational tasks
  • 2G/3G cell Ref generation
  • Responsible for the maintenance and updating of Radio Access Network database, mainly ASSET
  • Preparation of coverage maps using MapInfo tool.
Academic/ Professional Qualifications
  • Advanced Diploma/BSC in Telecommunication Engineering
  • Minimum 3 years experience in similar position
Key Competencies:
  • Radio Planning and Design in GSM and UMTS.
  • Knowledge in planning tools.
  • Knowledge in DT tool and analysis;
  • Multivendor BSS parameters
  • Report generations and presentations.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Efficient and results oriented
