GROOTS Kenya is a
nonprofit organization registered in Kenya under Section 10 of the Society’s
Act. It is a national movement of organized community based and self help
groups that are women led.
One of our core
program is Women Leadership and Governance within which all other programs are
anchored.
The objective of this
program is to empower women, improve their capacities in leadership and create
an environment in which together with their communities they drive demand for
accountability in public resource allocation, delivery of services and
protection of human rights
GROOTS Kenya is
therefore seeking to hire a Project Assistant to work on the Champion for Transformative Project which is a
flagship of the above program.
Terms of reference:
The project assistant
will work closely with the Program Officer and under the direction and guidance
of the Programs Coordinator to undertake the following tasks;
- Assist
in organizing capacity development initiatives related to women’s
participation in the leadership and governance.
- Assist
the Program Officer to develop strategies and interventions that will
accelerate grassroots women participation in both local and national
elective and nomination positions of leadership and decision making.
- Assist
the Program Officer in-charge in organizing grassroots women, men and
youths to addresses issues that hinder women participation in leadership.
- Support
the program officer in backstopping the implementation of work/action
plans developed by communities working with GROOTS Kenya.
- Support
in reporting, monitoring, evaluating implementation as well as expansion
of the Champions for Transformative Leadership Project and initiatives
relating to women participation in leadership and governance in GROOTS
Kenya.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university within the
Humanities and Social Science related disciplines.
Experience: At least 2 years of professional experience in community development
work with a focus to women & youth empowerment
Other qualifications
include:
- Strong
organizing skills;
- Has
demonstrated a passion to work with grassroots communities;
- Must be
computer literate with strong communication skills;
- Capacity
to generate and write program reports within strict deadlines;
- Capacity
to write proposals and concepts for purposes of fundraising is desirable;
- A
strong understanding of the laws of Kenya & the current political and
social environment is an added advantage
Terms of Offer
The successful
candidate shall be subjected to probation for 5 months.
During this period the
candidate shall be issued with a temporary contract.
A long-term contract
shall be issued upon a successful appraisal at the expiry of the probation
period
