Waste Enterprisers is an urban sanitation company based in
Ghana, West Africa with immediate plans to expand into Kenya. WE is a
waste-to-energy company that converts human fecal sludge into solid fuel for
cement plants and other industries.
Our mission is to eliminate haphazard dumping of human waste,
and the public health and environmental threats that go with it.
In essence, WE is making sanitation the byproduct of producing
renewable energy, and thus transforming sanitation from a cost burden on
governments and citizens into a profitable private venture.
Position summary
The Chief Production Officer will be the lead technologist for
Waste Enterprisers’ GreenHeat business.
The CPO will play a critical role in finalizing the design and
commissioning our first commercial-scale GreenHeat plant.
Responsibilities
- Develops
manufacturing processes by studying product requirements; researching,
designing, modifying, and testing manufacturing methods and equipment
- Develops
operations and maintenance protocols; trains operators to set-up, run and
maintain equipment for greatest efficiency
- Keeps
equipment operational by coordinating maintenance and repair services
- Improves
manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning staffing, materials
flow, space requirements, and equipment layout
- Assures
product and process quality by designing and validating quality assurance
and quality control measures; trains relevant staff to execute
- Prepares
product and process reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing
information and trends
- Maintains
product and company reputation by complying with government regulations
and quality standards
- Analyze,
develop, and coordinate manufacturing process instructions
Qualifications
- Bachelors
degree in an engineering discipline
- At
least five years’ experience as a supervisor of production or manufacturing;
10 plus years as an industrial or manufacturing engineer
- Knowledge
of lean manufacturing techniques
- Project
management skills and experience managing multicultural teams
- Action-oriented;
driven to meet or beat milestones and deadlines
- Background
in renewable energy and/or sanitation a plus
Working conditions
- Work
is split between office and production site, with more time onsite for
first 6-12 months
- Position
will be based in Mombasa with periodic travel to other cities within
sub-Saharan Africa and possible transfer after 12-18 months
Physical requirements
- Sufficient
personal mobility and physical reflexes, with or without reasonable
accommodations to perform office duties and travel when necessary to
off-site locations
- Must
be able to lift and carry 30 pounds
- Sufficient
vision or other powers of observation, with or without reasonable
accommodations, which permits employee to conduct analysis and
investigations
