- Middle Shabelle (50-75% of time) and Nairobi (25%-50% of time).

& Nutrition Coordinator – Nairobi.

Purpose/objectives
The Technical Assistant for the Health and Nutrition Sector,
engaged for the 50/75% of his/her activities in Somalia and for the 25/50% in
Nairobi, will have the responsibility of contributing to the coordination,
planning and implementation of proposed projects / activities in the
field.
Additionally, s/he will be heavily involved in capacity building
and training related activities.

The Technical Assistant to the Health and Nutrition Coordinator
will, together and under the guidance of the Health and Nutrition Coordinator,
oversee all Health and Nutrition Interventions in order to:
- Contribute
to the technical definition of INTERSOS health strategies under the
guidance of the Health and Nutrition Coordinator and to the elaboration of
new projects finalized to the health strategy implementation;
- Collaborate
in the direct supervision or “remote control management” of Intersos
supported Health and Nutrition facilities in Kenya-Somalia;
- Collaborate
in the management of human resources within the Health and Nutrition
projects, with particular regard to the coordination and motivation of
personnel, contributing to the continuous update and training on the
job.
Main technical responsibilities:
- Support
the Health and Nutrition Coordinator in the technical management of all
the Health and Nutrition projects.
- Support
the Health and Nutrition Coordinator in the development of progress
reports, proposals, requirements documentation, and presentations.
- Support
the Health and Nutrition Coordinator in producing health and nutrition
training packages and in delivering them to the field technical staff;
- Support
the Health and Nutrition Coordinator in the regular reporting of the
activities to the relevant Clusters;
- Support
the Health and Nutrition Coordinator in producing interim and final
reports to the donors;
- Find,
collate and report to the Area Coordinator baseline information concerning
the health and nutrition situation in the areas of intervention;
- Second
the Health and Nutrition Coordinator in Cluster meetings and other
representation/ coordination/ technical meetings whenever the Health and
Nutrition Coordinator will not be able to attend them;
Additional managerial responsibilities:
- Support
the Health and Nutrition coordinator in selecting/ recruiting additional
nutrition / health personnel to be deployed in the field (when necessary);
- Support
the Health and Nutrition Coordinator in the development best practices and
tools for project execution and management.
- Support
the Health and Nutrition Coordinator in the purchase of equipment/
material needed for the implementation of Health and Nutrition projects.
- Support
the Health and Nutrition Coordinator in the direct management of project
Health and Nutrition projects from beginning to end, including budget
management.
Position requirements
- Medical
doctor or Registered Nurse or Clinical Officer
- Clinical
experience a must
- Able
to work for long periods in Middle Shabelle Region, Somalia (Somali
National or Kenyan/Somali preferred)
- Experienced
in training staff in nutrition and health activities in the field.
- Experienced
in staging community awareness/ health promotion activities
- Demonstrated
experience in personnel management.
- Technically
competent with various software programs, including working knowledge of
statistical software (SPSS, STATA).
- Experience
at working both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative
environment is essential.
- Can
conform to shifting priorities, demands and timelines through analytical
and problem-solving capabilities.
- Reacts
to project adjustments and alterations promptly and efficiently.
- Flexible
during times of change.
- Persuasive,
encouraging, and motivating.
- Ability
to elicit cooperation from a wide variety of sources.
- Ability
to bring projects to successful completion through political sensitivity.
- Strong
written and oral communication skills (English, Somali and/or Italian an
asset)
- Strong
interpersonal skills.
- Ability
to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
is crucial.
