Chief Legal Officer 1 Post


KFS Grade 5

Reporting To: Head–Legal Services / Corporation Secretary

Overall responsibilities:
  • Ensure all legal matters of the Service are effectively managed.
  • Implementing the Organization’s Prosecution and litigation strategies.
  • Ensuring that the corporation complies with statutory and other regulatory requirements.
  • Representing the Service in Court and arbitrations as may be required.
  • Coordinating all litigations in liaison with the Attorney General’s Chambers, Government Ministries and external lawyers.
  • Drawing and processing legal notices and other gazettements issued under the Forests Act.
  • Liaising with legal Departments in Government, Private Sector, Regional and International Organizations.
Qualifications, experience & key competencies
  • A Bachelor of Law (LLB) degree and admitted as an advocate of the High Court of Kenya.
  • A Current Practicing Certificate
  • At least seven (7) years working experience as an advocate in a large and reputable
  • Public or Private Organization five (5) of which must be in the position of Senior Legal Officer or its equivalent.
  • Good communication, drafting, negotiating, arbitration skills.
  • Must be computer literate.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Civil and Criminal Law and corporate legal practices.
  • Demonstrated high degree of professional competence in legal work and administrative capability in work performance and results.
  • Outstanding honesty and integrity.
Assistant Commandant 2 Posts

KFS Grade 5

Reporting To: Head of Conservancy

The assistant commandant will be responsible for all forest protection operations at the Conservancy level.

Essential Job functions

Specifically the Key tasks for this position will include
  • Coordinating Enforcement and Compliance operations within the conservancy.
  • Ensuring that paramilitary policies, code of conduct and protocol is complied with and that high level of discipline is maintained within the disciplined staff.
  • Mobilize resources for forest protection operations
  • Co-ordinate Forest Security activities with other law enforcement agencies in the conservancy.
  • Assist the Head of Conservancy in the enforcement of the Forest Act, 2005 and other related laws and statutes regarding forest protection.
  • To recommend the training and discipline of the Forest rangers in forest protection service.
Qualifications, experience & key competencies

Suitable candidates MUST have the following minimum qualifications:
  • A Bachelors degree in Social sciences
  • Minimum of five (5) years in paramilitary service, three (3) of which must be at a Senior Superintendent level.
  • Must have attended Grade 2 staff courses at Defense Staff College Karen or Senior Management Course.
  • A Graduate of National Defense College or its equivalent is an added advantage.
  • Evidence of Computer proficiency.
Head Planing and Monitoring 1 Post

KFS Grade 4

Reporting To: Deputy Director, Corporate Services

Essential Job functions

Specifically the Key tasks for this position will include:
  • Analyse KFS policies and provision of informed advice on planning and economic policy issues to the service and the board.
  • Undertake economic analysis, evaluation and monitoring of development projects and programmes.
  • Conduct pre-feasibility and feasibility studies setting project priorities.
  • Collecting and analyzing data relating to forest conservancy areas, investment projects and programmes.
  • Review of development policy strategies and programmes.
  • Coordinating preparation and review of organization’s strategic Ian.
  • Assist in the formulation of economic and statistical development activities.
  • Appraisal of conservancy area activities projects and programmes or advising thereon.
  • Prepare proposals for donors and develop finance institutions to leverage additional resources for KFS.
  • Develop a capacity building programme for KFS staff on planning and performance management.
  • Preparation of timely reports including annual reports and performance Contract reports.
Qualifications, experience & key competencies

Suitable candidates MUST have the following minimum qualifications:
  • A Bachelors degree in Economics, Development planning, Development studies or any other relevant and equivalent qualifications from a recognized university.
  • A Masters degree in Planning , Economics, Development studies, Corporate planning or any other relevant, related and equivalent qualifications from a recognized university.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the current best Corporate Planning and Monitoring practices and experience in operating planning and monitoring policy and strategies.
  • Demonstrated high degree of professional competence in planning, monitoring and administrative capability in work performance and results.
  • A minimum of eight (8) years experience in a planning or monitoring position in a large private or public organization in a senior management position.
  • Must be computer literate.
  • Remarkable track record in developing and executing strategic plans and initiatives competencies.
  • Ability to promote organizational vision, mission and strategic goals.
  • In-depth practical knowledge of inter disciplinary national development issues and networking.
  • Ability to lead strategic planning, result based management, monitoring and reporting.
  • Experience in the implementation of Performance contracts will be an added advantage.
