Accountant Job in Kenya


NRS Sacco is a growing financial institution currently with over 7,000 members. 

And that is why we need to recruit a larger team into the organization to help us realize NRS mission and vision as we expand nationally.
We are therefore looking for qualified candidates to fill in the following position:
 

Accountant  

Duties and Responsibilities of Accountant
·                     Reports to the C.E.O.
·                     Ensure that there is a structure for the financial management team with clearly defined roles and responsibilities to adequately support sound financial management.
·                     Plans, organizes and implements accounting operations and objectives; coordinates and integrates all activities toward achievement of established goals and objectives.
·                     Supervises, trains and evaluates accounting professionals, and entry level accounting and support staff.
·                     Ensures all functions and programs planned are performed within established budgetary parameters, to include performing cost control activities, monitoring revenues and expenditures, and ensuring sound fiscal control.
·                     Regularly review and address the developments in financial management systems to ensure the most appropriate technological support for financial management practices.
·                     Timely preparing, updating, financial reports to be submitted to the Sacco Regulatory body on 15th of every month without fail.
·                     Preparing financial statements including income statement, balance sheet, and statement of cash flows on a monthly basis, and report the same to the C.E.O. by 10th of every month.
·                     Prepare and analyze on a quarterly basis the society business plans and budget.
·                     Report on a monthly basis, liquidity level of the society at branch level, and advice the C.E.O. on a quarterly basis through a strategic financial plan on ways to address constant liquidity that would meet high loan demands.
·                     To constantly maintain at least 20% of revenue income as liquidity to finance institutional activities and operations.
·                     Performs highly complex accounting work according to generally accepted accounting principles, established procedures, departmental guidelines, and regulatory requirements applicable to the work.
·                     To timely advice the credit sub-committee on liquidity levels to enable them to make decisions on dates of loan appraisals.
·                     To ensure that monthly loan demands are efficiently met by timely reporting of any anomaly before disbursement.
·                     Prepares critical fiscal documentation regarding accounting activities, e.g., weekly, monthly and annual reports, draft and revised codes and ordinances.
·                     Generates various complex system reports or audits calculations and ensures accuracy, e.g., billing, payroll processing, and accounts payable.
·                     Maintains and reconciles balance sheet accounts for all funds with assistance from accounting support personnel.
·                     Plans, manages, coordinates, and implements the year end closing processes and procedures for the assigned accounting records; conducts year-end closing process; provides information to financial auditors; conducts standard internal audits of various accounting records.
·                     Prepares budget forms for distribution at the beginning of the budget process; prepares fund summaries.
·                     Ensures adherence to generally accepted accounting standards and principles; ensures maintenance of proper audit trails and verification and reconciliation actions for all processed work.
·                     Performs verification and reconciliation tasks for invoices/receipts/balances according to department checks and balances procedures.
·                     Prepares a variety of studies, reports and related information for decision-making purposes.
·                     Provides technical accounting support and interpretation to management and employees.
·                     Attends and represents department at various executive meetings for the dissemination of information; prepares management meetings for dissemination of information; serves as a member of various employee committees.
·                     Coordinates activities with other departments and work groups as needed.
·                     Link financial and management reporting issues to gain a better understanding of the organization and the relationship between the organization’s day-to-day operations and the achievement of corporate goals and objectives;
·                     Increase management understanding of financial issues through being an advocate of the value of linking financial and operational information for decision-making purposes;
·                     Focus more on measuring and controlling business risk through an effective financial risk management framework.
·                     Come up with at least three other sources of revenue every quarter.
·                     Ensure obligations under taxation legislation are met.
·                     Be responsible for the development, maintenance and management of the chart of accounts.
·                     Review financial reports to ensure that the information is endorsed as to its completeness, reliability and accuracy.
·                     Creation of, and support of, performance management systems to my department that link both qualitative and quantitative key performance indicators to the outcomes of the organization.
·                     Any other duties that may be assigned by the C.E.O.
Minimum Qualifications Required:
·                     Bachelor of Commerce degree or its equivalent from a recognized university;
·                     Must be a CPA (K) and registered with ICPAK
·                     Must be knowledgeable with the new SASRA regulations
·                     Experience in a comparable position with similar responsibilities in a SACCO or in like organizations for a minimum period of three (3) years.
·                     Proficiency in Sacco Accounting Management Software is a must.
·                     Strong ICT skills
·                     Demonstration of team building, leadership skills, interpersonal and communication skills
·                     Age between 30-40 years
