Our client, GVEP works to increase the effectiveness of energy product and service providers supporting micro, small and medium enterprises to strengthen their businesses, develop projects, expand or diversify their businesses.

A key part of this work is support to those businesses with high quality technology, engineering and project management advice.

To strengthen this support, GVEP wishes to recruit the following executives and staff :-

Enterprise Support Team (EST) Manager

This is a fixed 2½ year term contract with a strong possibility of extension.

Job Profile

  • Managing the team of business and technology experts to deliver advisory services to SME clients and projects
  • Developing criteria for inclusion of enterprises and projects under the various projects within GVEP.
  • Planning the support using tools developed for that purpose and based on priorities agreed within GVEP and with donors.
  • Resourcing the priorities making optimal use of GVEP staff and calling in external expertise from appropriate sources where necessary.
  • Vetting applications for support using developed criteria while helping improve the quality of applications by working closely with applicants to refine ideas.
  • Developing a rich pipeline of applications through outreach, networking and creative marketing of the services offered.
Person Profile
  • A strong background in finance spanning eight years or more.
  • Experience in critical analysis of projects, business plans, investment plans, financial structures, feasibility studies and engineering designs with a view to making them real and workable.
  • Knowledge of the financial sector and investment climate in East Africa.
  • A good understanding of renewable energy technologies including small hydro, solar, biomass with an eye for technical, financial and economic feasibility.
  • High numeracy skills with ability to analyse complex data and discern patterns, trends, anomalies etc and generate useful information.
SME Advisor

This is a fixed 2½ year term contract with a strong possibility of extension.

Job Profile
  • Assist SMEs seeking investment.
  • Pre-investment: assistance in creating and refining business plans, feasibility studies, operations, market and value chain analyses.
  • Post-investment: oversight and on going support of SMEs including strategic planning, operational and process development and support, tax and legal support, and monitoring and reporting (particularly operational and SRI).
  • Developing implementation plans for portfolio companies.
  • Close and effective coordination and communication with ESME programme staff in Nairobi and staff in the GVEP London headquarters.
Person Profile
  • 3-7 years’ experience in business development services, impact/SM E investing, strategic or management consulting, or business technical assistance.
  • Experience in the energy sector including renewable energy project development, operations, and financings (grant, equity or debt investments).
  • Knowledge of basic production processes and principles of quality control.
  • Experience in the evaluation of SMEs operations and creation and ¡mplementation of growth, expansion and operational efficiency plans.
  • Experience working with rural or small businesses, and an understanding of unique challenges faced by Afrjcan SMEs.
Country Manager Rwanda

This is a fixed 2½ year term contract with a strong possibility of extension.

Job Profile
  • Managing the Kigali office on a day to day basis to ensure that its deliverables are met on time and on budget
  • Staff management and financial management
  • Proper coordination on all project matters among project staff including Business Development Services Coordinators and Mentors
  • Maintaining good relations and liaisons of GVEP and relevant Government agencies, Sida country offices and beneficiary MSMEs involved
  • Monitoring: Ensuring accurate data for PDP 4 is collected by project staff, that this data is reviewed and analysed regularly and lessons learnt inform on-going operational practise and strategy reviews.
Person Profile
  • 3 years experience with international donor programmes, with strong project management skills and a track-record of delivering programme results.
  • At least a bachelors degree in a business related discipline with more than 3 years work experience in developing enterprises, business development, project management or similar fields
  • Experience in the energy sector essential including project financing and investment, energy technology and the energy environment.
  • Experience working with Financial Institutions (commercial banks, microfinance) will be an added advantage as well as with Governments and Government agencies.
  • Experience working with rural or small businesses, and an understanding of unique challenges faced by African eSMEs.
