The Horn, East, and Central Africa (HECA) Region is the largest region within Oxfam, covering 8 countries, including Ethiopia, Tanzania, Kenya, Somalia, Democratic Republic of Congo, South Sudan, and Uganda. 

The Regional Centre is based in Nairobi and is mandated to provide leadership and support to the Oxfam country programmes in delivering their strategies within the context of programme quality, and efficiency.

REGLAP is a Consortium that works in three countries – Ethiopia, Kenya and Uganda. REGLAP is housed in Oxfam’s Regional Centre and seeks a 
Communication Assistant who will provide communication support to the REGLAP Secretariat and consortium members, particularly minute taking, overseeing and uploading documents onto the website, maintaining the drop box folder, updating key documents, editing, formatting and disseminating documents.

The role
 
You will: 
  • Maintain and update contact lists for REGLAP partners, donors and others and e-bulletin distribution. 
  • Produce a bi-annual REGLAP e-bulletin of key REGLAP documents and progress for NGOs, donors, international organisations and government. 
  • Overseeing the design and printing of REGLAP materials including the bi-annual journal, technical briefs, good practice guidance, banners, studies and policy briefs including requisition in Helios (Procurement system) and follow up with logistics.
  • Take REGLAP meeting minutes as necessary. Send REGLAP materials to WISP, CELEP, upload onto relevant websites (other than FAO): Prevention web etc. 
  • Update the key information sources and gaps on dry land development and key stats on dry land areas, actively seeking new sources of information. 
  • Review/edit key REGLAP documents as necessary.
The Person 
  • University degree (preferably in communications, journalism or development) 
  • Knowledge and experience of dry land issues in the Horn of Africa Experience of website oversight, editing and organising materials. 
  • Excellent, concise and clear interpersonal and written communication skills Working effectively with others, thinking and understanding and achieving results 
  • Excellent prioritisation skills and a proven capacity to undertake varied tasks simultaneously to tight deadlines 
  • A highly adaptable and flexible approach to work, with strong capacity to work with teams based in different countries
  • A proven ability to analyse and synthesise large amounts of complex information 
  • Knowledge of methodologies for knowledge/information management, public relations and information dissemination, particularly new technologies 
  • Good computer skills and past experience, especially for commonly used software for word processing, spreadsheet, applying graphic design tools, production of quick domestic videos with most common programs, using assessment internet tools for quick surveys. 
  • Working experience with international organisations or NGO(s) Skills in self organisation to work effectively, with tenacity, proactively in critical information gathering, innovative approaches and supporting others
