Opportunity: Chief Executive Officer (CEO)
Background
The overarching mandate of PHDA is to promote
health and economic development in Kenya and Africa, with the following primary
objectives: to provide health services; to promote research into health issues
which impact Africa; to promote development activities; to promote research
into development issues which impact Africa; to provide educational
opportunities to individuals in Africa; and to raise, mobilize and disburse
funds and other resources in furtherance of its objectives.
Position Summary
The Chief Executive
Officer is responsible to the Board of Directors of the PHDA, and also has a
direct reporting responsibility to the University of Manitoba Vice-President
Research and International.
The daily affairs of
the organization are managed by the Chief Executive Officer.
The CEO shall work
collaboratively with the Organization’s Chief Scientific Officer to accomplish
the Organization’s goals of promoting health and economic development in Kenya
and Africa.
The CEO is responsible
for all business affairs of PHDA, and ensures that the financial, human resources
and business operations of PHDA are conducted in a manner consistent with the
policies and procedures of the University of Manitoba, and other policies of
funding agencies that may apply.
Additional areas of
responsibility include Board of Directors-related administrative support;
program, product and service delivery; community and public relation
activities; and fundraising activities.
The position will be
viewed as a full time position.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s
degree or higher in Economics, Business Management, Health, Public Policy,
International Development, or a related field.
- Minimum
of five years of experience with project development or project
management, including designing, supporting and monitoring projects in a
developing country.
- Minimum
of five years of experience engaging with government programs and/or
policy in some professional capacity, preferably in issues surrounding
health or education.
- Accounting
and financial management experience in a not-for-profit environment.
- Strong
computer experience, specifically for research, writing and scheduling
activities.
- Experience
with public speaking, and in organizing and participating in public
engagement activities.
- Leadership
and supervisory experience.

collaboration and partnerships.
- Communications,
including interpersonal communications, written communication, and formal
and informal presentations.
- Handling
interpersonal relationships, conflict resolution, and team building.
- Critical
