Study Description: This position is supported by the Family AIDS Care and Education Services (FACES), Research, Care and Training Program (RCTP) of the Centre for Microbiology Research (CMR), Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) and the University of California San Francisco (UCSF). 

We are seeking a motivated, pro-active individual to work on the THINK2 and SToP Crypto Studies. 

THINK2 is a longitudinal observational study of individuals with HIV-associated neurocognitive disorders. 

SToP Crypto is a study of new combination oral therapies for early cryptococcal infection.

Position: 
Laboratory Technologist

Key Requirements:
 
Education:
  • Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences from a recognized training institution
  • Must be registered with Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologist Board (KMLTTB)
Experience:
  • One-year experience in Microbiology laboratory
  • Experience with research preferred
  • Experience working within an HIV care setting preferred
Other skills:
  • Basic familiarity with computers and common software packages
Key Responsibilities:
  • Phlebotomy
  • Perform study related laboratory testing for cryptococcal antigen
  • Initial preparation of microbiological cultures
  • Participate in laboratory rota at assigned FACES clinical laboratory
  • Accurate and prompt study documentation

Position: Study Physician / Medical Doctor and Assistant Study Coordinator - Clinical

Job Summary: The incumbent will oversee daily clinical activities of the research project at two study sites, supervise the Suba District study team, and report to the principal investigators.
 
Key Requirements:
 
Education:
  • Bachelors’ Degree in Medicine and Surgery from a recognized university;
  • Registration with the Kenya Medical and Dentists Board
Experience:
  • At least one year experience with clinical research
  • At least one year experience in provision of HIV care including anti-retrovirals

Key Responsibilities:
  • Author, review, and ensure adherence to clinical Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the study
  • Carry out medical and neurological examinations, interpret laboratory results, perform lumbar punctures
  • Dispense and manage medications
  • Conduct neuropsychological testing
  • Assist with data entry and verification
  • Accurate and prompt study documentation, safety monitoring and follow-up of adverse events
  • Manage research assistants and laboratory technologist; coordinate clinical activities at two sites

  • 1 year experience in Research set up and coordination or working with patients who are HIV-Infected and knowledgeable and sensitive about issues of privacy and disclosure.

Daily duties for SMS-4-PMTCT Coordinator
 
SMS/ Phone organization duties
  • Management and preparing the call list for the consultant clinician
  • Custodian and monitor of the study phones
  • Follow up on missed calls and text messages
  • Updating of the call log data base
Calling duties
  • Confirm deliveries of participants who are at term on gestation by dates.
  • Supportive supervision of peer educators responsible for recruiting pregnant women to the SMS reminders intervention.
  • Supportive supervision and technical support to the consultant clinicians.
Data Management
  • Supervision of the data clerks
  • Filing of study Documents
  • Supervision of the QA/QC process
Financial management
  • Provision of airtime for the program phones at the sites implementing the SMS PMTCT intervention
  • Paying the monthly bill for the phone server
  • Reimbursing the RAs and the consultant clinicians
Reports
  • Updating the program coordinators and the PMTCT Technical Advisor on implementation progress of SMS for PMTCT intervention on weekly basis.
  • Preparing minutes of the weekly meetings
  • Custodian of the study related equipment and supplies.
