Program Description: The Research Care and Training Program (RCTP) in collaboration between Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI), University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) and University of Washington (UW). It is a dynamic comprehensive HIV prevention, care and treatment program in Kenya.

It is a rapidly expanding program. 

Due to its continued growth, the program is seeking motivated, pro-active individuals to fill the following position of Peer Educators for SMS for PMTCT Intervention within FACES Program. 

Position: Mentor Mothers (Several Positions)

Location: Nyanza (Suba, Mbita, Migori, Rongo,Nyatike and Kisumu)
 
Key Requirements
  • Minimum of form four Education
  • HIV-positive mother
  • Recent PMTCT experience (6 months - 2 years)
  • Mentor Mothers respect and protect the confidentiality of clients at all times.
  • Team work, respect and committed
  • Has disclosed HIV status to at least to one person within the household
  • Lives within the local community
Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct group health talks in facility waiting areas related to PMTCT and MNCH
  • Facilitate group pre-test HIV education for pregnant women.
  • Provide one-on-one peer education and psychosocial support to PMTCT clients and couples.
  • Form and co-facilitate Support groups for PMTCT clients and couples.
  • Conduct defaulter tracing of priority PMTCT clients.
  • Refer PMTCT, MCH and CCC clients for other services within the health facility and to community-based services.
  • Encourage partner involvement in MCH services, through education and psychosocial support.
Work closely with the in-charge to integrate KMMP services at facility

Requirements
  • Minimum of Form four educations.
  • HIV-positive female and enrolled at the district hospital
  • Has been on care for more than six months and adhering well to care and treatment
  • Must respect and protect the confidentiality of clients at all times.
  • Has disclosed HIV status to at least to one person within the household
  • Lives within the local community
  • Having been on ARVs is a plus
Key Responsibilities
  • Enroll pregnant mothers into the SMS service for PMTCT reminders intervention.
  • Defaulter tracing
  • Carry out general HIV Education and Health Talks to clients.
  • Assist the receptionist in filing and updating the registers
  • Assist the Pharmacist with pill packing, and self administration of drugs
  • Organize and conduct group adherence counseling under the supervision of a nurse or a CCHA
  • Assist with Adherence follow up at home, home visits and act as a treatment buddy.
  • Participate in the support group formation and peer educator’s meetings
  • Participating in group therapy’s within the support group and amongst the peers
  • Link the clients to the available service delivery points.
  • Document all performed activity for reporting at the end of the month
