BBC Media Action uses media and communications to reduce poverty and promote human rights in developing countries. 

To achieve this, BBC Media Action partners with civil society, local media and governments to:
 
- Produce creative programmes in multi-media formats which inform and engage audiences around key development and humanitarian issues.
 

- Strengthen the media sector through building professional capacity and infrastructure.

We seek experienced professionals to fill the following core roles.
 
Humanitarian Lead 
 
Working with a wide range of figures within the humanitarian relief and media communities, the Humanitarian Lead will develop and drive BBC Media Action’s preparedness and response strategy for humanitarian crises in Kenya and Somalia. 

The successful candidate will inform, develop and, in some cases, execute training and provide consultation to humanitarian actors with respect to communications for beneficiary populations, and the use of a variety of media formats, inc radio and mobile telephony. 

The role will also lead on developing communications in local languages for programming during the acute phase of an emergency.
 
Required Skills and Experience:
  • At least five years experience with an INGO in a similar role, ideally with specialisation in humanitarian communications and relevant higher education qualifications.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, a capacity to engage with diverse internal and external stakeholders and an aptitude for creating connections across teams.
  • Strong project management, time management and leadership skills.
  • Experience developing and delivering training plans with an emphasis on interactive learning.
  • Strong writing skills and proven capacity to provide clear written analysis on relevant issues.
Project Accountant
 
The Project Accountant will provide professional accounting and financial administration services, financial management support to project staff and high quality financial reporting services for donor funded projects.
 
Required Skills and Experience:
  • Fully qualified accountant (ACCA or CPA), with at least 5 years working experience as a senior level Accountant in an INGO at the country/national level.
  • Bachelor of Commerce or relevant degree.
  • Experienced at financial management: monthly reporting, reconciliations, payroll management and handling statutory returns.
  • Excellent IT skills with experience of operating computer-based financial management systems.
  • Competent to advanced level in Microsoft Excel, with ability to manipulate reports to suit various requirements.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to establish effective working relationships with financial and nonfinancial managers as well as external stakeholders.
