The Kenya Education Network (KENET) is a not-for-profit membership organization that is licensed by the Communications Commission of Kenya as an Alternative Network Facility Provider. 

KENET is the National Research and Education Network (NREN) of Kenya and provides broadband Internet services to the higher education and research institutions in Kenya, including all the public and most of the private universities.
 

KENET has grown rapidly in the past two years predominantly because of the expansion of the higher education sector in Kenya and therefore seeks to fill the following positions:
 
1. Director, Learning Technologies
 
This position reports to the Executive Director/CEO of KENET and will be responsible for promoting and piloting the use of modern learning technologies to transform higher education in KENET member institutions. 

The position will design and coordinate innovative and demonstration teaching and learning with technology projects in collaboration with member institutions. 

This position will suitable for candidates who are already senior faculty members in one of the KENET member universities and who are willing to provide academic leadership in the use of learning technologies to transform and enhance the quality of university education in Kenya.
 
Suitable candidates will be expected to have the following qualifications and experience:
  • A PhD in ICT or educational technology from a recognized university
  • Demonstrated excellent teaching skills at university level preferably in an African university
  • Experience in developing e-learning materials
  • Experience in academic leadership and working with senior leadership of universities
  • Demonstrated ability to attract grants from industry and foundations
  • Demonstrated high ethical and moral standards
This position shall be on contract terms of three (3) years which shall be renewable based on performance. 

Faculty who plan to take academic leave of absence or sabbaticals are encouraged to apply. 

An attractive remuneration package commensurate with theposition will be offered to the successful candidates.
 
2. Communications Manager 

1 Position
 
This position reports to the Executive Director/CEO of KENET. Suitable candidate will provide leadership in execution of the KENET communications strategy in promoting local and international collaboration and partnerships in research, education and innovations using both print and electronic media, including social media.
 
Suitable candidates will be expected to have the following qualifications and experience:
  • An undergraduate degree in communications, journalism, educational technology, information sciences, or business administration (marketing option)
  • At least 10 years experience as a communications professional in a medium-sized organization, five at a senior level executing a digital media strategy, preferably in the ICT industry.
  • Any relevant higher degree will be an added advantage
  • Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Kiswahili languages. Ability to communicate in French will be an added advantage.
This is a senior position and shall be on contract terms of three (3) years, renewable based on performance. 

A competitive salary shall be offered and shall be within the salary bracket for communications managers working in medium-sized not-for-profit organizations in Kenya.
 
4. Head of Finance
 
This position reports to the Executive Director and CEO of KENET and will be responsible for providing strategic leadership in finance, procurement, and accounting at KENET. 

The successful candidate will serve as the Chief Finance Officer of KENET.

Suitable candidates will be expected to have the following qualifications and experience:
  • A undergraduate degree in commerce or accounting information systems or engineering from a recognized university
  • Must be a CPA (K)
  • A relevant higher degree in business will be an added advantage
  • At least 10 years experience as an accountant, five as a senior accountant or CFO of a medium-sized company that has an operational ERP.
  • Demonstrated high moral and ethical standards
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English language
This is a senior position and shall be on contract terms of three (3) years, renewable based on performance. 

A competitive salary shall be offered and shall be within the salary bracket for senior accountants or CFOs of medium-sized for-profit or not-for-profit organizations in Kenya
 
5. Senior Accountant

1 Position
 
This position reports to the Head of Finance of KENET and will be responsible for providing management support in the preparation of financial accounts,financial analysis, treasury management, budgeting and budgetary control. 

The position will provide leadership in the budgeting process and analysis of business performance.

Suitable candidates will be expected to have the following qualifications and experience:
  • A business, commerce or accounting degree or equivalent from a recognized university and must be at least CPA (K)
  • At least five years’ experience in a busy accounting office or audit firm
  • Experience in preparing of financial accounts and reports for senior management.
  • Proficiency in the use and setting up of computer-based accounting information systems and ERPs
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision
  • Demonstrated high ethical standards
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English language
A competitive salary shall be offered and shall be within the salary bracket for senior accountants of medium-sized for-profit or not-for-profit organizations in Kenya
 
6. Network Engineer 

(1 position)
 
This position reports to the Head of Infrastructure and will join the engineering team with the responsibility for design, implementationand maintenance of the broadband and high-performance KENET IP network that connects member institutions.

Suitable candidates will be expected to have the following qualifications and experience:
  • An undergraduate degree in electrical engineering or equivalent from a recognized university with advanced knowledge of telecommunications networks
  • At least three years’ experience as a network engineer or equivalent in an organization with a large IP network, ISP or telecom operator.
  • Post-graduate degree with specialization in telecommunication networks or network security or advanced professional certifications will be an added advantage
  • Demonstrated excellent critical thinking and analytical skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English language
  • Demonstrated high ethical and moral standards
This position shall be on contract terms of three (3) years which shall be renewable based on performance.
 
7. Graduate Trainees in network engineering and information services 

(4 positions)
 
KENET invites suitable recent (less than 3 years from graduation date) university graduates to apply for a one-year Graduate Trainee program at KENET that aims to develop capacity in the areas network engineering and shared information services.

Successful candidates will be required to undergo an intensive one-year on the job training in one of the areas below

Graduate trainee in network engineering and operations

(2 positions)
 
Applicants must be degree holders from recognised universities in in Electrical Engineering or equivalent (e.g., electronic engineering, telecommunications engineering).
 
Graduate trainee in information systems and information services 

(2 positions)
 
Applicants must be degree holders from recognized universities in information systems, information sciences, accounting, education, or business
 
All graduate trainee candidates will be expected to have the following qualifications
  • Must have (or expecting) Upper 2nd class honours & above qualification or its equivalent in relevant area for each area of training.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and analytical skills
  • Excellent oral and written technical communication skills in English language
  • Demonstrated high moral and ethical standards
These positions shall be on a fixed contract term one year but at the end of one year, some of the candidates will be given an opportunity to join KENET on a full-basis based on availability of vacant positions and performance.
