The Kenya School of Judicial Education (KSJE) is the focal point for coordinating and conducting training of judges, judicial officers and non-judicial staff. 

The Constitution of Kenya (2010) mandates judicial education and training of judges, judicial officers and other personnel as a key pillar of judicial transformation. 

With this mandate, the School wishes to recruit results oriented individuals with drive, vision, passion and enthusiasm to fill the following positions:

Deputy Director, Finance and Administration 

(1 Position)

Reporting to the Director of the School, this position is responsible for providing strategic direction in the structuring, staffing and operations of the Finance and Administration Division of the School.

The Key Responsibilities for this role will include:

  • Providing strategic leadership and direction for the five functions within the Division including Finance, Human Resource, Administration, Supply Chain Management and Information Technology;
  • Directing the development of the Division’s short-term and long-term goals and objectives through an integrated performance management system;
  • Designing and developing initiatives to address emerging developments and technologies in the Division;
  • Developing and ensuring that appropriate control systems, policies and procedures are in place for the Division; and
  • Managing the day-to-day operations of the Finance and Administration Division.
The successful candidate should have the following qualifications:
  • Masters degree in Finance or Business Administration;
  • Eight (8) years of managerial experience, three (3) of which should be at Senior Management level in Finance, Human Resource, Administration, Supply Chain Management and Information Technology Management;
  • Professional qualifications such as CPA (K) or ACCA;
  • Advanced knowledge of financial laws and procedures as well as practices in Human Resource, Administration, Supply Chain Management and Information Technology;
  • Strong leadership and management skills; and
  • Sound judgment and decision making abilities.
Deputy Director, Judicial Education and Curriculum Development 

(1 Position)

Reporting to the Director of the School, this position is responsible for providing strategic direction in the structuring, staffing and operations of the Judicial Education and Curriculum Development Division of the School.

The Key Responsibilities for this role will include:

  • Providing strategic leadership and direction within the Judicial Education and Curriculum Development Division;
  • Identifying frontier and emerging issues in jurisprudence and other legal, policy and judicial issues;
  • Designing, developing and managing multi-disciplinary judicial education and professional training activities while integrating emerging developments, technologies and methodologies;
  • Leading the assessment of judicial education and professional training; and 
  • Managing the day-to-day operations of the Judicial Education and Curriculum Development Division.
The successful candidate should have the following qualifications:
  • Masters degree in Law, Legal Studies, Jurisprudence or Social Sciences;
  • Eight (8) years experience in the legal field specifically in legal education design, implementation and evaluation at a supervisory level;
  • Advanced knowledge of curriculum development, continuing adult education practices as well as judicial education, professional training and staff development;
  • Strong leadership and management skills;
  • Strategic outlook and strong decision making abilities; and
  • Ability to develop and maintain multiple stakeholder partnerships.
Deputy Director, Legal Research and Policy 

(1 Position)

Reporting to the Director of the School, this position is responsible for providing strategic direction in the structuring, staffing and operations of the Legal Research and Policy Division of the School.

The Key Responsibilities for this role will include:

  • Providing strategic leadership and direction within the Legal Research and Policy Division;
  • Formulating and directing the design of multi-disciplinary research on frontier and emerging issues on jurisprudence and other legal, policy and judicial issues;
  • Leading the development of linkages between legal research and policy;
  • Directing and overseeing the School’s Resource Center and the Judiciary’s library system;
  • Developing tools and processes to ensure high-quality legal research, policy advisory and capacity development; and
  • Managing the day-to-day operations of the Legal Research and Policy Division.
The successful candidate should have the following qualifications:
  • Masters degree in Law, Legal Studies, Jurisprudence or Social Sciences;
  • Eight (8) years experience in the legal field specifically in legal research design, and policy analysis and advisory at a supervisory level;
  • Advanced knowledge of legal and policy research methodologies, protocols, theories and practices and the principles and techniques of legal analysis;
  • Strong record of professional, peer-reviewed publications, as well as drafting and preparing policy memorandums and briefs;
  • Strong analytical skills;
  • Strong leadership and management skills;
  • Sound judgment and decision making abilities; and
  • Ability to develop and maintain multiple stakeholder relationships.
Human Resource and Administration Officer

(1 Position)

Reporting to both the Deputy Director, Finance and Administration and the Director of Human Resource Management and Administration of the Judiciary, this position will provide day to day human resources and administration services and support in all strategic and administrative areas.

The Key Responsibilities for this role will include:

  • Developing, documenting and implementing human resource and administration processes, policies and directives;
  • Developing human resources planning strategies with heads of Divisions;
  • Developing, implementing and managing the performance management system;
  • Conducting HR administrative duties such as employee data management, leave administration and pay and benefits administration;
  • Conducting and managing the administration activities such as property management including grounds and office maintenance, vehicle management as well as ensuring all licenses are up to date;
  • Managing the day-to-day activities of the human resource function of the School.
The successful candidate should have the following qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or other related field;
  • Five (5) years experience of relevant HR working experience in a learning institution or a medium to large size organization;
  • Membership to a Human Resource professional body;
  • Knowledge of and experience in human resource principles and processes;
  • Strong interpersonal skills; and
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
ICT Officer 

(1 Position)

Reporting to both the Deputy Director Finance and Administration and the Director of ICT of the Judiciary, this position is responsible for developing, implementing and managing all ICT initiatives to support the mandate of the School.

The Key Responsibilities for this role will include:
  • Developing IT policies and procedures and ensuring their continuous review;
  • Supporting the School’s Divisions in leveraging IT solutions to meet their goals through the use of appropriate technologies in distance or ex-situ judicial education platforms, case management systems and other functional areas;
  • Managing the School’s local area network and internet connection;
  • Ensuring network security through installation of appropriate hardware and software;
  • Overseeing maintenance, upgrades and repairs of IT equipment.
The successful candidate should have the following qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field;
  • Five (5) years experience in networking, systems administration and IT support in a fast paced or rapidly growing organization;
  • Advanced knowledge and experience in implementing IT related policies and procedures;
  • Ability and willingness to continuously stay up to date with relevant technological advancements in the market; and
  • Ability to be adaptable and flexible.
