Senior Field Accountant
(Nairobi based but with frequent travel to Somalia)
World Vision International – Somalia Program wishes to invite applications from highly competent dynamic, self-driven and result oriented individual to fill the above mentioned position.
The Senior Field Accountant will seek to strengthen existing financial controls
in the field locations with a view to improving internal controls, policies and
procedures.(Nairobi based but with frequent travel to Somalia)

He/she will also provide guidance and technical support in field the financial management, risk assessment, reporting and budgeting processes.
Major Responsibilities
- Visit
each of the field locations (Somaliland, Puntland and Doolow) to assess
and evaluate the existing financial controls, recommend and implement
improvements where necessary.
- Facilitate
preparation of monthly financial reports by reviewing and consolidating
project programs expenditure reports against budgets and subsequent
discussions with Area Program Management.
- Review
and analyze sun system reports for the program and projects such as core
reports, financial reports, and advances on monthly basis and share the
analysis with field management teams.
- Conduct
regular capacity building for field finance staff financial
policies/procedures with a particular focus on budget management and donor
rules / regulations.
- Provide
financial technical support for budget preparation for proposal writing in
line with donor requirements and partnership guidelines.
- Ensure
all standard cash controls are in place with special emphasis on cash
counts and reconciliations to the cashbooks.
- Facilitate
projects audit exercise, monitor implementation of audit recommendations,
management response and provide regular consolidated reports to World
Vision Somalia’s management.
- Advice
and work with the field finance teams, field logistics teams as well as
the Nairobi Supply Chain team in updating the field inventory systems to
ensure proper inventory control procedures are in place and adhered to.
- Facilitate
timely monthly funding for programs/projects against approved budgets and
cash flows.
- Ensure
that the Fixed Assets Registers are to up to date in each field location
and all assets are tagged physically.
- Review
the payroll system calculation.
Qualifications
- Bachelor
Degree in Accounting or Finance with professional certification in CPA or
equivalent
- 5
years of experience in Financial Management.
- Excellent
computer skills in Excel & Sun-systems software.
- Demonstrated
ability in supervision.
- Experience
in managing donor funds.
- Good
planning and organizational skills.
- Ability
to maintain effective working relationships with all levels of staff and
public.
- Demonstrates
well-developed interpersonal skills, excellent communication skills, both
verbal and written.
- Ability
to work with different partners, local authorities, local organizations
and NGOs, to develop and maintain positive relationships.
- Computer
Literate in MS Office.
- Working
knowledge of grants operations, finance services and practices is an added
advantage.
- Must
be a professional able to stand above denominational diversities.
