The role
The main purpose of the role will be to assist in the advocacy
and communication department in the planning, preparation and execution of
communications products and activities that reinforce HelpAge’s organizational
position and promote its vision and mission in Africa.
This will include providing support in the production of publications and IEC materials, maintenance of the HelpAge website and intranet and support to the coordination of HelpAge’s flagship campaign Age Demands Action (ADA).
ADA is a grassroots global campaign which takes place on the UN
International Day of Older Persons on October 1st and other important days such
as World Elder Abuse Day and World AIDS Day and involves older people across
the world lobbying decision makers for their rights to be recognised.
In the past, delegations who met with government have received
firm commitments of increased pensions, improved healthcare and better access
to basic needs such as food, water and credit.

Core to this support role will be the promotion of the Hilton
Humanitarian Prize which
HelpAge was awarded in 2012 in recognition of being the only
global organization with a singular focus on providing assistance to and
advocating for disadvantaged older people.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities will include supporting the implementation of
the regional communications strategy through:
Operational support
- Support
in the collation and editing of articles as well as coordinating the
production of HelpAge’s quarterly Ageing in Africa newsletter.
- Regular
writing, editorial and content management work on HelpAge’s website Africa
and pages, provision of news stories and facilitating real time reporting
on key events such as ADA, updating Face book and other social media
- Supporting
the implementation of the regional publishing plan motivating and
coordinating input from country offices and network members
- Support
in the production and dissemination of publications in dealing with
printers, translators, editors
- Support
to media engagement and activities, including regular and monitoring
review of African new stories concerning HelpAge’s core themes

updating of EWCA intranet pages
- Coordination
of organisational contacts database

- Collation
and monitoring of annual organizational communication impact indicators
Support to Programmes
- Work
with programme managers to support the extraction of quality impact
information, case studies, testimonies and other programme materials, for
organisational communication purposes (including regular publications,
website and intranet).

in editing, coordination of translations and production of project
specific publications.

in the coordination of communicational aspects of core events and
workshops organised as part of the programmes

the regional communications officer in building communication capacity
with affiliate and partner organisations

fair representativeness and visibility of HelpAge’s donors on all
publications and other communications products, in particular the
promotion of the Hilton Prize.
ADA campaign
- Assist
in the planning and coordination of ADA in-country actions in Africa
- Respond
promptly to questions and requests from delegation organisers and RDC
team.
- Gather
regular updates from participating countries on their activities and
distribute regular updates to participants and HelpAge staff
- Monitor
and evaluate all campaign activities, contributing to proposals and
reports for grant funders, donors and for organisational learning
- Draft
an ADA narrative report for the Africa region
- Assist
in the development and distribution of campaign marketing materials like
videos, banners, T-shirts ensuring greater visibility of HelpAge and the
Hilton prize in particular.

global campaign toolkits for partners in the region and assist them in
using it

with budget monitoring and distribution of funds to third parties in the
region

that visibility of HelpAge receiving the Hilton Humanitarian Prize is

Job Title: Accountant – Grants and
Contracts
Department: Finance &
Administration

Purpose: Responsible for
budgeting, financial accounting and reporting of assigned grants and donor
projects in the EWCARDC and providing financial support and training to
affiliates and implementing partners
Responsibilities:
1.1 Grant and Contract Management
- Prepare
and submit to Regional Finance Director interim and final donor financial
reports for review at least one week before the due date
- Prepare
and circulate monthly donor and HtA monitoring (expense vs budget) report
to programme managers by 22nd day of the month for assigned project codes
- Promptly
follow-up and make adjustments to monthly and interim donor reports based
on feedback from the program managers.
- Review
monthly donor reports with the relevant managers and point out areas with
financial risks in line with donor conditions for the managers to take
proactive corrective action.
- Assist
project managers with budget re-alignment and other budgetary issues
- Ensure
expenses are charged to correct project and budget lines
- Receive,
review and correct monthly returns from implementing partners for assigned
projects and prepare for submission to UK office by 7th day of each month
- To
assist in getting monthly cash flow requirements from implementing
partners and project managers and forwarding this to the Accountant -
Secretariat for consolidation and forwarding to UK Secretariat.

a file for each project and filing all returns and other correspondence on
file and ensuring security and confidentiality of the documents in line
