Rift Valley Railways is a major rail and marine transport service provider with operations in Kenya and Uganda. 

We have heavily invested in a business turnaround project that will see us become the best logistics and transport company in Africa by 2020. 

In an effort to realize our business turnaround Strategy and the RVR Vision, we seek to recruit highly talented and performance oriented associates in the following positions:

Financial Controller (Uganda) – Ref - RVR 12/8/1

Reporting to the Head of Accounting and Tax, the Individual will oversee the running of the finance function of the Rift Valley Railways (Uganda).

Key Result Areas:
  • Develop and maintain up to date internal controls, systems and processes
  • Lead and supervise a team of accounting and payroll staff
  • Ensure compliance with corporate taxation, statutory requirements and accounting standards
  • Produce accurate and timely financial information on the company’s financial status and performance (including financial statements, reports, annual reports & budgets)
  • Prepare and consolidate operational financial reports on a regular basis
  • Develop monitor and ensure the implementation of departmental budgets and overall company budgets
  • Co-ordinate and ensure timely external audits and limited reviews
  • Assist in developing and implementation of the strategy, financial policies and procedures
  • Act as the main point of contact with bankers, auditors and tax agents and provide them with the required information on behalf of the company.
  • Undertake treasury management including the review and monitoring of the company’s cash flow projections as well as forex dealings.
  • Manage creditors and financial approval of purchase orders.
Education, Skill competencies, Experience & Motivational requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree and/ or Master’s degree in Commerce/ Accounting/ Finance/ Business Administration
  • Be a qualified Accountant with CPA(U), CPA(K), ACCA, ACA
  • Membership of professional accounting body i.e. ICPAK, ICPAU, ICPA, ICMA
  • 8 years’ experience in a senior management level, finance role in a large organization.
  • Sound knowledge on statutory compliance regulations and accounting policies and procedures
  • Analytical, business acumen, organizing and individual leadership skills
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Working experience with SAP, ERP or other accounting systems will be an added advantage.
Business Process & Control Manager - Ref - RVR 12/8/2

The job holder will be Reporting to the General Manager, Finance Planning & Control, and will be responsible for building an effective internal risk and controls management.

Key Result Areas:
  • Provide analytical control mechanism and process that balance business risk/controls with operational objectives
  • Ensure compliance with auditing guidelines and regulations.
  • Establishing an Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) program consistent with Corporate Governance requirements.
  • Design and implement an effective risk management policy
  • Providing guidance on business process re-engineering
  • Head the business self-audit assessment process
  • Coordinate the liaison between the business process owners and finance
  • Implementing change management assessments for new business developments
Education, Skill competencies, Experience & Motivational requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, and/or Finance; MBA/CPA/CIA/CISA highly preferred
  • 5+ years’ experience in business controls as a Finance Manager (Controllership), Internal Audit Manager or Consultant. Big 4 and /or Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) experience preferred
  • Good understanding of business risks and controls management and ERM.
  • Ability to identify improvement opportunities and translate same from concept to reality
  • Self-starter with a high level of diligence and ability to work on own initiative and in conjunction with other key process leaders
  • Goal oriented, results driven with a strong desire to see tasks through to completion
  • Ability to develop, sustain and leverage networks / relationships
  • Ability to influence others through logical reasoning
  • Ability to interact professionally and comfortably at all levels within an organization
  • Ability to think creatively, highly-driven and self-motivated
  • Demonstrated ability to roll-up sleeves and work with team members in a hands-on management capacity
  • Ability to work under pressure, lead change and maximize staff productivity.
Planning & Business Analysis Officer– Ref - RVR 12/8/3

Reporting to the General Manager – Planning & Control, the job holder will be responsible for the planning, generation and analysis of operational data and conducting business research.

Key Result Areas:
  • Generating operational & business data and analysis for decision making.
  • Carrying out business research and market intelligence for planning and exploring ways of enhancing capacity.
  • Analyzing and recommend reviews of master plan/chart in line with business/ operations plan and related targets.
  • Evaluating operational performance based on the master plan.
  • Determining capacity with respect to various dynamics and perimeters relating to changes in train operations.
  • Preparing operational reports
Education, Skill competencies, Experience & Motivational requirements
  • A university degree in Engineering (Production Option) or equivalent.
  • Ability to use a wide range of software applications
  • Working knowledge or ERP’s especially SAP will be an added advantage.
  • Problem-solving & analytical skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines
  • Ability to manage relationships with multiple stakeholders
  • Have excellent team working skills across multiple functions & stakeholders
